    Joe English Hill Legal?

I climbed from Summit road in June. Parked at the cul-de-sac. Hiked the dirt road / driveway for about .1 miles then followed a 4x4 trail to the summit. No issues.

Another rescue of unprepared hikers on Mt Washington

These hikers made some bad decisions but IMO when at the summit at 2:00 PM they made a wise decision to descend the auto road. If they attempt to descend the Ammo, Jewell or follow the cog tracks surely they would be back after darkness and difficult to find or rescue. The auto road would be...

Beginner Winter Hiking in the Whites

If you're looking to gain experience and not check marks I'd recommend starting with lower elevation shorter hikes like Mt. Major, Belknap, Kearsarge or Cardigan. Once you become more experienced go for something longer and higher like Chocorura or Smarts. Once you are comfortable with your...

    Best approach to Breadloaf/Jackson

I'm not familiar with a Mt. Jackson in the area so I'm assuming you mean Breadloaf and Wilson. Both trails are comparable in mileage however the more popular route is the Emily Proctor Trail. Skylight Pond trail is a nice alternative and paying a visit to the pond makes a nice pit stop once...

Six iPhones tested, and they can't agree on magnetic north

My GPSr points to True north while my compass points to magnetic. I don't have an iPhone but could the ~15 degree discrepancy they are seeing be as simple as the iPhone is calibrated to true north?

    Wheelerville Rd, Vermont

Mt. Mary, Middle Pilot, Northwest Pilot, Hutchins

09/14/2013 Ascended from the west via Lost Nation and parked at the end of Arthur White Rd. Spoke with the friendly property owner who welcomed hikers to cross his land. Mowed grassy road leads 1.0 miles across property to a private trail leading up the ridge to a cabin and the Mt. Mary...

Baxter - Katahdin - Brothers, Fort and Coe - NEHH

In regards to the slides on Doubletop I always thought the slide to the left was the seahorse slide the center slide was a cat and the witch slide was to the right depicting the side profile of a witches hat.

    Mt Dartmouth / Millen Hill

8/31/2013 Parked at Caps Ridge trailhead on Jefferson Notch Rd and followed 3000 - 3100 foot contour line until Mt. Dartmouth was to my direct west then ascended to the summit. Woods were open almost the entire distance and bushwhack one of the easier ascents. returned along the 3100 foot...

Thanks for taking the time to look into permission. I appreciate the efforts.

    Eisenhower, Pierce, Jackson loop

I'd recommend a loop via Edmands path - to Eisenhower then hit Pierce and Jackson. Descend via Webster - Jackson trail.

    Whitewall Mtn. on October 10th

That is West Field. There is a logging road that crosses the A-Z trail at 2.2 Miles that leads in the direction of 3528 Ft (west) West field and would be your easiest route to both peaks. The whack from here to Whitewall was one of my favorites as it passes through a birch glade with waist...

When the roads will be open for...

I'm also looking for a status update on Nash Stream rd and access to Sugarloaf / Percy Peaks. It doesn't appear on the FS website. Any beta would be appreciated.

    Peakbagger spreadsheet!

Well done! This is an excellent and well organized spreadsheet. I started entering my data and inadvertantly entered the wrong date into the macro. This populated several pages of excel data (with the wrong date and season) is there a way to edit the initial data entered into the macro as...

3/19/12 - Camels hump via Burrows Trail

Parking/Access Road Notes: Camels Hump road is marked "closed to trails". I parked about 1.25 miles from the trailhead and received a very nice kudos from a property owner who thanked me for not driving further and damaging the already damaged road. Comments: The Burrows Trail contained a...
