    Bear Brook State Park Question

Bear Brook is a snowmobile, ATV, Dog sled, XC ski haven in winter. You'll find more solitude on the single track hiking trails I suspect many are broken out..

Hi Trish, I've been thinking about bringing the kids up Kearsarge or something in the Belknap range and I may start them off on the NH firetower quest program.

    Cannon?

I ascended Cannon 1/24 via the Kinsman Ridge Trail from the ski area parking lot and encountered several hikers on the trail. (it's broken out) The trail switchbacks through a ski glade and can be difficult to follow. Usually angling my way across the glade would result in finding a faded blue...

How to make skiis less slippery

Depending on the disability have you considered 2 sets of skis. One set mounted to the walker then a second set of standard boots and bindings on your student using the walker/ ski accessory as a set of poles. Essentially I'm looking at the situation not as a disabled person using a walker but...

Question about getting to Owls Head

Kevin. I ascended as a group of three via the slide, but descended via your best buddy's route.

Question about getting to Owls Head

Dave, Thanks for restructuring my intentions in better words than my own. I certainly didn't mean to suggest poaching the AMC hike.

Question about getting to Owls Head

The AMC has scheduled an Owl's head hike for this Saturday. I'm not sure how big the group is but you might want to consider tagging along (or giving them a head start). http://trips.outdoors.org/index.cfm/method/search.fullview/tripid/23022/preview/preview/

    I like wearing heels

Apologies for the confusion, I'd prefer to use the televators. They definitely reduce the strain on my leg muscles however the blisters incur. I'd like the best of both worlds with the capability of using the heels without the side effects of the blisters.

    I like wearing heels

Now that I have your attention as Monty Python's Lumberjack song echos in your head, I'm a huge fan of the MSR heel lifters (they make my calf muscles look great) however found they are causing blisters. On ascent without lifters my achilles is stretched and comfortable, on descent my heel is...

N and S Hancock from the Kanc

Date of Hike: 1/1/10 Trail Conditions: All trails to the summit were well packed. Last night left a dusting on the trails and approx another inch fell as I made the journey. A couple minor blowdowns all easily hopped. Bushwhacked 100 yards by-passing the first 2 stream crossings. 1 stream...

Add me to the Pierce bandwagon, plus Crawford path will likely be a superhighway after the upcoming storms.

    Killington and Ellen questions?

Yvon. I've hiked both in the winter of 04/05 via the routes you described. Killington: Wheelerville Rd From Rt 4 to the Bucklin trailhead was plowed. The trailhead lot was also plowed. Ellen: Jerusalem Rd and Jim Dwire road were both plowed. There was little parking available at the...

    MSR Lightning snowshoe recommendations

Joe, I still have the bulky clown feet but last winter they were more of a hinderance and useless due to their width being greater than most of the MSR packed trails.

    MSR Lightning snowshoe recommendations

The bearded dude with the red suit will be bringing me some MSR's this year and is torn with the decision between the 25" and 30". I'd really prefer the 25's but the weight limit tops at 175 (my no pack average pre-holiday daily weight). With pack I'm a bit over 200 lbs and wonder if I'd be...

Dorset via whatever trails I could find.

Date of Hike: 11/29/09 Trail Conditions: Drove as far as my Subaru would carry me via Dorset Hollow / Tower Road which wasn't very far. Followed a rough logging road with snow starting at 1700 Ft that was 4-5 inches at the 3000 Ft Col. Spirits lifted as I encountered a trail merge and was...

Bread Loaf & Wilson Via Skyline trail / LT

Date of Hike: November 15, 2009 Trail Conditions: Skyline trail was damp but in pristine condition after yesterdays rains. A couple muddy spots and the river crossings were swollen but nothing a hop, skip and jump couldn't fix. A very gradual incline through a open hardwood forest made an...

    Equinox via Blue Summit Trail

Date of Hike: Saturday, 10/17 Trail Conditions: Trail was well traveled but covered in fallen leaves. A thin blanket of crunchy snow starting at ~3000 Ft. Special Equipment Required: I carried yax trax and never took them out of the pack. Comments: Optional - A Short, Steep and Sweet hike...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

If I were in the shoes of a land owner probably wouldn't have been as patient or understanding as they seem to have been. The property owners appear to continue extending olive branch after olive branch and according to the latest sign will potentially grant permission to visit the land, if...

Nancy via Nancy pond / Herd Path 8/29/09

Date of Hike: Saturday 08/29/09 Trail Conditions: Nancy Pond Trail well marked and easy to follow, one large blowdown near the trailhead. Nancy pond and Norcross Pond were extremely swollen due to the rains and beaver activity causing an overflow onto the trails. I wasn't sure what I was...
