    Blowing out the ice bridges

And before the summer season it could be an interesting spring fire season in the northeast. Praying for snow, but not holding my breath. And FWIW, the ice did go out sometime Tuesday afternoon/evening on the East Branch at Lincoln.

    Carter Notch In Winter

I have used the cut-off a few times, once in winter on a similar trip. I found it broken out on my winter visit and a piece of cake to find (YMMV.) If you're keeping your eyes out for a road width (~15ft) swath crossing the trail, it is hard to miss.

    The Birds

I was in Zion NP back in the spring and they had many signs of that nature. The Rock Squirrels were quite tame and sometimes aggressively sought out your food. Particularly bad at Angel's Landing and the path to the Narrows.

Rattle River Trail And Shelburne Moriah

Unbelievable view of the Wild River Wilderness/Carters/Baldfaces etc... Highly recommended. Lightly used. Kendueskeg from the AT to summit got a brushing over the summer season at some point, so the going is less scratchy than in years past.

    Scramble Free 52 WAV

Mt. Roberts via Mt. Roberts trail is moderate hiking and beautiful lake views on the way up. Then a view north to the Whites from the summit. Five mile out and back or there are loop options to extend mileage from the summit via High Ridge trail. Parking at the end of Ossipee Park Road in...

    Down/Primaloft Jacket

And the Boston store was a little bit of a let down when I visited. Caters more to the Newbury street, boutique visiting, city 'KoOk' than the crowd that would actually use the garments as intended. The employees didn't appear to have ever set foot off pavement, never mind climb a mountain.

    Down/Primaloft Jacket

I have experience with their regular merino garments. I have many of all weights and styles and love them. Good for the trail and casual wear. Merino pants are like a dream. Although their newish 'Wool-air' insulation jackets, which I think you're referring to, I do not. Considering the high...

Interesting Update on Hike Safe Card Program

Yep, it prompted me to buy a fishing license as I got a 'two-for-one.' Only fished a couple times but it was worth it. It should be noted that they expire on December 31st, not a year from date of purchase. So if you want a full year of coverage for your money, buy early on in 2016.

    Tecumseh view clearing

Better radio communications for big brother is the reason. If you've been to Middle Sister you've seen the radio repeater. Also north of the East Royce summit there is one. 100' diameter swath on Signal Ridge should look nice. :( Gotta love the feds making an amendment to their own forest...

    Recent Rescue on Washington

Don't worry Stan, I just reread and thought my comments could be interpreted as such. Not directed at anyone. Cheers.

    Recent Rescue on Washington

Before I get painted as an ******* I understand the moral side and would help if someone clearly was in trouble (hypothermic, injured, etc.) Getting to the summit expecting the Cog and not having it is not an emergency. We don't know the conversation had up there or to what degree the...

Overnight BackPack in CT - Or a close drive...

It is the Appalachian Trail so there's a bunch through there and the established ones will be well documented if you do a little homework. I can only remember the names of 2. Riga Shelter/campsite which looked like a nice stop but too early on in the trip. And there's Laurel Ridge campsite...

Overnight BackPack in CT - Or a close drive...

Start in NW CT on the AT North off Rt. 41 in Salisbury. Over Lions Head, Bear Mtn, into MA thru Sages Ravine, Mt Race, Mt Everett. All 4 peaks have very nice views. Especially Mt. Race and the ledges leading up to the summit. There's side trails to cut the trip shorter if you can't commit...

    Recent Rescue on Washington

I assume you mean the two hikers that pointed him down Nelson Crag. If that is the direction we're going with the negligence thing, then don't expect so much as a "hello" from me as you pass. I'll be the guy pretending not to see you... ;)

    Tecumseh view clearing

Or how about the forest service themselves who cleared this "improved" snowmobile route in the Three Ponds area. Degrading the Mt Kineo trail, and to a degree, the whole 3 Ponds experience in the process IMHO. Guess its not near a 4k or their precious Pemi Wilderness so nobody cares. Oh and it...

Moriah Brook trail Wild River crossing beta

Yes, had the river been up I would have given more thought to using the bridge. The northern side support stringer (if that's what it's called) is the only thing I could see actually wrong with it as it is no longer taught. The southern one is, but is fixed to land that is undercut. You can...

Moriah Brook trail Wild River crossing beta

For those interested, I crossed today at the closed bridge and was able to rock hop across 20 yards upstream with dry feet at 48 cubic feet per second, 2.55 feet on the Wild River stream gauge. It wouldn't take much more water to make it a very tricky and/or wet crossing. Cold temps would add a...

    Exploring Piermont Mountain, Piermont, NH

I really enjoyed Piermont for the first time back in May via Richie Green trail. Beautiful summit. A friendly camp maintenance worker guided me to the trailhead. Cool photos!

LOST HIKER IN Spaulding mountain area maine.

I was thinking along those lines, nartreb. As it appears the AT may have been rerouted away from that area at some time? Or is it just represented incorrectly on the maps? Its been since 06 when I went through there. Besides the old rail grade, I cant remember if there are any unclear turns...
