Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

When climbing, I welcome the quick breather that letting the descending hiker pass affords me.

Top 25 "Scenic Hikes" in New England?

To me, Mt. Greylock is the odd duck on the list. While nice, it can't hold a candle to a majority of those on the runner up list view-wise. Add the traffic of the road(s) and it isn't very pleasurable to sit atop.

Algonquin Trail to Sandwich Dome 11/2/13

Thing about Algonquin trail in winter is you'd have to snowshoe/ski/snowmobile Sandwich Notch road just to get to the trailhead. At least a couple miles in. It would be worth it though for the solitude you'd likely find once there. A favorite trail of mine to escape the 4k crowd.

How Do I Adjust Grivel G10 Crampons?

I thought the same about the sharpness when I got my G10s, 5 years or so years ago. I used them as is without killing myself, but you're gonna want to get a mill file and sharpen those puppies up. I feel much more confident in their bite now after doing so. Also, invest in a crampon bag or...

3rd Time Is A Charm on Cardigan

A fine peak up in this area and one those obsessed with the 4ks will miss out on. But that's fine with those of us who love it. I still have yet to hit the Holt for some reason, though.

    Stratton's Stewards

Met them on my LT thru in Oct.'10. It had snowed 8-10 inches a day prior to our Stratton ascent. Memorable day walking through the snow in shorts! They took us in to their warm, cozy cabin, shared some food and stories. Great couple. Jeanne took this shot of us with the tower, which...

    Best approach to Breadloaf/Jackson

You may be right, Tim. But if my memory serves, I remember at least a decent view to the south and east from a ledge north of Mt Wilson on the LT? I tagged them both during my 2010 LT thru so things may be blurred together in there.

    Mount Tremont 10-4-13

Nice photos. I did this trail a week or two ago for the first time and also found the switchbacks tedious. Summit view makes up for it.

    Church Pond Trail fixed!

I hiked this trail for the first time a week or two ago and found it to be a pleasure, short stream ford included. Nice foliage in the swamps. Good views of the Sandwich Range. https://picasaweb.google.com/TMHHikes48/ChurchPondRailNRiverDiscoveryTrails92313

Tent camping at Lake of the Clouds?

Camping isn't allowed above treeline unless on top of two feet of snow. Gonna have to modify those plans. Maybe stay at Nauman tent site and day hike it from there?

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

I see them as future trash, if not already and took it upon myself to remove the one on Mt. Whiteface. I respect this mans cause but unless he's gonna hike them all over again and collect them, which I doubt, then his wilderness ethics are lacking at best.

    Haystack - Miles Notch redlining

A couple summers ago, I also found the area around Butters to be confusing. I can only imagine that it is worse now.

Gordon Pond Along the Kinsman Ridge Trail - OK for Camping?

If you go there and look around, you'll find a place pitch a tent. I remember seeing a couple places a year or two ago.

    Best Route For Isolation

I enjoyed the trip when I spotted a bike at the Glen Boulder trailhead, then started hiking from RB. Hit Iso, then continued up to Boott Spur. Descended on Glen Boulder to my bike, glided down to the RB trailhead where I started.
