    Unplowed parking lots

Wondering if anyone might know why Bowman trailhead on Rt. 2, Owl's Head on Rt. 115 and Cherry Mt. also on 115 are not plowed in the winter??? A trip up to Mt. Martha is an excellent warm up hike and would also be a nice family style outing (great views from Mt. Martha summit in two different...

Mt. Martha 1-5-14, Cherry Mt. trail

Parking lot off of Rt. 115 was not plowed; my Tacoma made it in using 4 wheel drive while Priscilla's Outback with AWD and new snow tires was not able to make it all the way in; she parked off the pavement on 115 and was still there when we returned. Don't know if the ruts in the parking lot...

Favorite Family-Friendly Hikes in New England?

Black Cap in N Conway always seems to have hikers of all ages on the summit ledges, and a much better view than say The Roost...did you mean Square Ledge in Pinkham Notch?? looks like it might have been combined with Crystal Cascade, one could add Lost Pond and that would be a nice trip...save...

Most Difficult New England Winter 4kers

Of course it always depends on if the trails have been broken out...I have had good luck with the Kendron Flume Trail route, which for some reason to me, is more interesting than doing the road walk up to the Ethan Pond trail..did not even need snowshoes once (traction needed) and the ladders...

    Wonderful Winter Weather Terms

Though not a very fancy name, "snow rollers" are a rarity...maybe once or twice a year, weather, wind, and snow conditions need to be perfect...some fields in Milan, NH, seem to be right in the wind tunnel and I have seen about 5 acres of the rollers at one time...and seen a few above treeline...

    Your Choice for Winter Boots

Have had good luck with Rocky Lynx boots, 800 gram insulation...they are a good fit for my MSR snowshoes...also use Garmont 400 gram insulation (could not find a model name on them) which I like to use when I know I will not need snowshoes..a good fit for microspikes and hillsound light...

Views from Another Top - How Far Can You See from Atop Boston Skyscrapers?

Been lucky enough to be able to ID Mt. Washington and the Boston skyline, on the same hike, from South Pack Monadnock and on another hike on Monadnock...and I think Blue Job Mt. too...there seemed to be a haze surrounding Boston so maybe one can not see out as far as one can see in....

    Mahoosuc Trail Gorham Trailhead

Yes the trail is accessible from the Rt. 16 railroad trestle...once across the Androscoggin, take the gravel road to the left and keep going or climb the bank up to the old railroad grade and go straight (they both lead to the same place)...there are some signs showing the way, but once past a...
