    Mt. Tremont 5-9-14

Parked along Rt. 302 on the opposite side of the trail, a short distance past the trail, on a pull off with plenty of room. Trail: Mt. Tremont; clear sailing with dry, wet, and some muddy spots until well up near the switchbacks, where we ran into some deeper snow section. We used microspikes...

    WMNF Forest Road Status

Rt. 113 from Rt. 2 in Gilead Maine (EVANS NOTCH) is open...noticed a trail condition report from Ken (and his hiking pup Grete) from yesterday, so I took a motorcycle ride this afternoon...and a section from near Haystack Notch trail over to the ME/NH border was paved late last year so it's not...

    Doubleheads 5-7-14

Trails: Doublehead Ski Trail to Old Path; Old Path to the col, then took a right on New Path to South Doublehead...great viewpoint there; reversed back to Old Path up to North Doublehead, and came out via the Ski Trail; just a few blow downs on each trail (one crawl under on Old Path); a few...

Status Slippery Brook Road and East Branch Road

Slippery Brook Road closed to vehicles after the first gate nearest Town Hall Road...East Branch gated and closed to vehicles, both due to Irene damage. But foot travel still allowed. So relatively long road walks will have to be done if you want to hit any of those trails in there. I think...

Water crossings, Imp trail (north section) and Rattle River trail

Hi Keith: Imp (north) can be difficult in high water but I think you could find places to cross downstream (saw a big log nearby across the brook)...and maybe it won't be too high as it has been too cold recently for rapid melt...but then again, you never know....hope you enjoy your day...Keith...

    Snow Free Trails 2014

I did Belknap Mt. to the firetower today by walking up the Carriage Road past the gate up to the shed at 1.3 miles...I then took the Green Trail and it had some ice/snow up high where I used microspikes...I went down the White Trail and that trail was really snow free except for one spot, which...

    Mt.Parker 4-18-14

Trails: Mt. Langdon and Mt Parker. Mt. Langdon down low is muddy in spots with running and standing water, some snow patches. Once past Wilderness Boundary, snow becomes deeper and more of it, though it was frozen this morning..we barebooted up to Mt. Parker jct. where we put on microspikes...

Anyone Know What Mountain/Trail This Is?

Great pic, they must have used this one for the Chocorua N view on page 111 of "Scudders White Mt Viewguide." Washington, Wildcats, Carter Dome, Old Speck (just barely) in back; from the left Mt. Nancy all the way up the Crawford Path for the Southern Presis left to right; and Bear Mt. in the...

Evans Notch - Route 113 open?

I think it is usually in better shape from the Rt. 2 side, but of course there are some spots where the bumps and holes always seem to be there...on the downhill side after the Laughing Lion trailhead is where the worse spots are...

Evans Notch - Route 113 open?

Rt. 113 is open but you have to approach it from the Conway side...pretty sure the gate on it from the Rt. 2 side is still closed....

    Imp Face 4-10-14

Parked at trailhead on Rt. 16, plenty of room. Trail: Imp Trail (north branch): still pretty well frozen around 1030 this AM, enough I was able to use Hillsound Pro Light Crampons up and back....couple of big blowdowns, one near power line crossing and other after water crossing....a little...

    Lodging info please

We are thinking of hiking from Elk Lake and Upper Works sometime this spring/summer/fall. We like to stay in motels or cabins with kitchen in room, within a reasonable distance from the trailheads. Could we get some recommendations from you ADKrs?? Thanks!!

    Anybody Know This Guy?

AMC recommends trail adopter try to hike his/her trail in winter to check out protruding branches, and trim as needed...but you are right about just breaking them off. It should be done properly as rocket21 stated. If you do a trail condition report, maybe you could hint heavily the proper way...
