    Where to go?

Agree with checking out Crag Camp and Knight's Castle...the viewpoint is .2 from the camp...you can get to it from Appalachia parking by taking the Link, to Amphibrach, and then the Spur Trail (near the five way jct. called the Pentadoi). Crag Camp is a popular destination in winter so those...

    Cabot 3-27-14

York Pond Road off of Rt. 110 somewhat icy and treacherous after entering the National Forest...3 or 4 vehicles at most can park at York Pond Trailhead and that's icy too, spinning wheels to get out...Unknown Pond Trailhead much bigger, both plowed out of course. Trails: York Pond, Bunnell...

    Carter Dome 3-25-14

Trails: 19 Mile Brook, Carter Moriah, Carter Dome, 19 Mile exit... 19 Mile: used microspikes up to Carter Lakes, also could have barebooted; Carter Moriah: one snowshoe track had come down from the summit to the hut area, but no way packed...we snowshoed up and over (MSR's provided the traction...

    Good Spring Hikes In NH

Have had good luck with Kearsarge South, Cardigan from the West (but you will need to walk the road from the closed gate), S Moat as mentioned too...also the Squam Range, but the Morgan/Percival/Rattlesnake parking lots are closed early in the year, and I do not know if parking on Rt. 113 is...

    Jefferson and Washington 3-7-14

Parked at Cog Railway hiker's parking lot, plowed and plenty of room. Trails: Jewell, Gulfside, Jefferson Loop, Gulfside to Trinity Heights...reversed down Gulfside and out via Jewell. Jewell lower well packed out with just a few soft spots in the trees; above tree line, windblown hardpack and...

Guess we should count our blessings up in the Mahoosuc Region (AMC)...I believe all the trails are adopted up this way....that's a good number of trails you have and most of them do need some TLC...hope you get a good response!!!

Bushwhack On North Twin From 2nd Crossing To Ridge?

Referenced in the book 4000 Footers of the White Mts. in the North and South Twin Mts. chapter (pgs. 330, 331), are two old trails: Twin Range Trail and Little River Trail. It might be the Twin Range Trail as the Little River Trail went up and around S Twin to the Guyot Col...however I do not...

    Barnes Field / Mt Cabot

Double D's in Berlin is open 24/7 (and of course technically it is on Rt. 110/Rt. 16 jct, will be on the left as you take the left turn at Green Square in Berlin)..peakbagger is correct about the Gorham DD...MickyD's in Gorham slightly down the road from Hiker's Paradise opens at 5 I m pretty...

Winter Gathering NH Barnes Field February 21-23

Saturday might be ok weatherwise... I took a spin in today and you have most short driveways to the sites plowed out but could only see one fire ring shoveled out...a few picnic tables cleared off too...don't forget your shovel!!

Herd Path Questions For North And South Twin

Have done the herd path and snow machine trail to make sure I knew where I was going if I wanted to do either...would stick with the herd path.

    Middle Carter 2-7-14

Trails: Imp Trail (south); North Carter Trail; Carter Moriah Trail. Imp Trail (south) had been tramped yesterday by Waumbek and what appeared to be a small group later in the day (sunset hike maybe??) so it is well packed for the most part..a few spots still with powdery snow..3 stretches with...

Winter Gathering NH Barnes Field February 21-23

I'm pretty sure all sites have a metal fire ring...grading just by views, Imp comes out on top, followed by Mt. Surprise and then Pine Mt. For a fast get away day hike, Lookout Ledge via the Ledge Trail in Randolph has nice views into King Ravine and surrounding 4ks and other smaller...

    NH 4000-Footer Superlatives

Excellent effort!! Being a view junky, I feel that Cabot (from cabin and firetower site), Middle Carter (ledge right near summit), Hale (in winter with nice snowpack), Passaconaway ( west, north and east viewpoints), and Middle Tripyramid got a bum deal in the view category. Willey's view rating...

    Garfield

Yes you should park at the southern Gale River Loop Road spot and then it is 1.2 miles to the beginning of the Garfield Trail...couple years ago I tried to keep up with my 6'4" nephew and we made it in just about 20 minutes......

    New and Improved Lean-to/Shelter Spreadsheet

Thanks for the effort...in NH, here is some info: Ore Hill on the AT burned down and has not been rebuilt (that I know of); Black Mt. in Jackson has a cabin similar to Doublehead cabin; there is the Mt. Langdon Shelter on the Mt. Stanton trail; and there is the Cabot Cabin on Mt. Cabot, just...

    Sandwich Mtn Area

Did the Hancocks Friday and Tecumseh yesterday, and icy trails on the steeps seem to be the norm. So traction devices are a must for safe hiking. There was a few inches of hard packed snow/ice combo down low on the Tecumseh trail, and it appeared to be the same at the Smarts Brook trailhead...

    Unplowed parking lots

Thanks for the info Dennis...did not know if the Forest Service or State or RMC had control of these trailheads..too bad the snowbanks, at least, could be knocked down...every so often I see the Cherry Mt. trailhead plowed, but I think it is done by the trail maintainer....
