yes, Float/Nate is still hiking! He came home for a few days to watch his sister graduate from High School. ;) He packed up and headed back down yesterday afternoon to start up where he left the trail. He looks great and I've seen him eat more in the last few days than I've EVER seen him eat! :)

ok, I have to say, I am so proud of Nate! His entries in the journal are getting even better and he is learning so much about life, himself and this little marble we call home. I may perhaps be a smidge biased... with him being the closest thing to a son I will ever have and all...

Geneva puts the final pin in her map, Owls Head on 5/12!

Thanks all! Owen, it really was nice to meet you, Mark and Natalie, hope we can meet up for a few more hikes soon. It was a doggy day out there wasn't it, Laukey, Mia and Ginger along with Geneva! Ginger was part of a group of about 20 or so folks who passed by between the slide and the...

Geneva puts the final pin in her map, Owls Head on 5/12!

Well, it took me almost exactly 4 years to get her there, but Geneva has now hiked to all 48 NH 4K peaks! The hike was wickedly fun, and had all the things a great hike to Owls Head should have, bugs, mud, sketchy water crossings, scratches, blood and lots of laughs! The weather was perfect...

trouble with Trail Journals dot com?

I seem to have some sort of issue with Fairpoint and getting onto trailjournals.com I keep getting errors and my DSL can't 'find the server' is the most common one. Fairly sure it is not a setting on my computers, as I have the same issue on two laptops and my iPhone from my home. When I am...

he is doing great! and for a 20 year old kid in super shape already ~ he should be getting stronger out there! Hum, maybe the first trail magic I manage for him should be trailside rootbeer floats... ;)

My friend Nate is starting his journey of hiking the AT! He is posting on trail journals and I am going to try to follow him there, and try to get some trail magic to him when I can. The link to his journal is http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=371679 In case anyone else would like to...

Foster dog gone missing on a hike - Found safe

I went up and down the Roberts Trail today. let my dog run around to see if she could see/smell/hear her. Saw quite a few other folks and dogs out looking as well. Hope they find the poor thing...

Ever wonder what a hike looks from the perspective of 4 legged hiking companion ?

That is wicked cute! Hum, now where can I borrow a helmet cam from for Geneva to start filming...

    wild dog?

looks far too clean and well cared for to be wild. Look at those sparkeling white teeth! I often let my dog run around the house without her collar, and sometimes I forget to put it back on her if I let her out. She has even gone to work a time or two without it... I would imagine my dog to...

Madison to Monroe on 3-17-12 for 2 W48 finishes

Great job all of you! I was sad not to be able to hike with you kids to your finish and 'almost' finish for Mike! Was certainly a beautiful day to be out and about in the mountains! Congrats to all 3 of you! :)

    So, one more to go!

Thanks Tom! That had to have been the easiest winter climb up Mt. Washington ever... Almost feels like we were cheating somehow. We saw every kind of footwear imaginable, from trailrunners to LaSportiva expedition boots! I was kind of surprised not to see anyone sporting flip flops! Although...

    So, one more to go!

Well, Geneva was in a holding pattern at 46 for a wicked long time. So we finally got her to 47 on Mount Washington on St. Patrick’s Day. The original plan was to meet up with friends who were doing a partial Presi Traverse and hike with them from Washington to Monroe, where 2 would finish...

    Rattlesnake Trails closed for now.

On my drive home last night I noticed the sign when turning onto 113 in Holderness that the Rattlesnake Trails are closed. I would guess it is for mud and will reopen when dried up, but not sure. Just trying to save someone a trip if they wanted to head over that way. ;)

Baxter State Park Ski Traverse - February 2012

Nice TR and photos... Soooo bummed I had to miss this, and hope I don't have to wait ANOTHER ten years to get a crew together for a ski through. :( We are so lucky to have BSP to play in any time of year! It does feel very awkward to know I was replace by Shizzy though... :)
