    White Mtn Iphone App

Just curious if anyone has used the White Mountain Iphone app yet, and if they like it or not. I was thinking of getting one of the excel apps for my phone and someone mentioned that one to me, since I would mainly be using it to keep track of mountains. There may be one for Maine and...

Thanks for greenie. So glad they found her before last nights storms... she must have been a tired, hungry and scared little girl. Can not imagine looking for Geneva for a week in the woods, I'd be out of my mind.

    9/4/11 Liberty Trail/Chocorua

A few sections of trail with standing and running water that have made for some muddy sections. Some erosion in spots. No blowdowns on section I hiked, and other hikers reported trail above me had none. Attempted to clear as many water bars as I could and rechannel water off the trail in the...

9/3 Jennings Peak via Smarts Brook Trail

Geneva and I took a nice enjoyable slow walk up to Jennings Peak via the Smarts Brook Trail. What a beautiful trail and nice grade it has for getting to the ridge. It was a little wet in areas, but it would appear that it is perpetually wet in spots. There was a little evidence of storm...

White Mountain National Forest Open as of Tuesday 8/30/2011

They told me my trail had 121 waterbars. I stopped counting at about 65... Good thing I love playing in the water and the mud!

White Mountain National Forest Open as of Tuesday 8/30/2011

Tried to get to Gorham this morning for work, nope, route 16 closed at the Golf Course in Jackson basically (headed north from North Conway). A quick scan of the closures looks like a lot of water over roads and power lines down. I hope the trails made it through with little or no issues...

    Cabot

Geneva and I did a quick hike up Cabot on Saturday to get her one closer to finishing the 48. (3 to go! not that she cares much...) I wanted to do a full loop and get the Horn and the Bulge as well, but the skies kept looking a little threatening, and I wan't really sure when...

    Squam

We found the Metcalf Road launch and am really glad we did! I'll have to check out the Dog Cove one as well, want to explore that area a bit more too. Hum, I either need to lift weights more or get a lighter kayak I can carry myself without too much effort... Looks like my 'fleet' will be...

    Weminuche Wilderness Area

Does the book 'Colorado's Fourteeners' by Gerry Roach cover that area well, or am I better off getting one that specifically covers this area? My hiking bookshelf and map collection is growing, but so is my comfort level at branching out and covering more areas! Maybe in 2013 I'll even try...

    Weminuche Wilderness Area

Has anyone got any experience out there? I am going to visit one of my sisters and was told by a friend who has hiked a lot out there that I should check out the area. Planning on starting by ordering a map of the area... Thanks! ;)

Yes, I started on the 5th of August from Happy Isles. Only made it to Red's Meadow though and had to get of the trail due to unforseen circumstances... I will certainly go back and finish! It was amazingly beautiful. Glad you had a great hike and were safe!

Never mind the high sierras... What do we do about the bears in the Philly airport?!?! Seems like we may be camping here tonight. Should we hang a bear bag?

    Squam

Yes, you can put in there and at the Center Sandwich Town Beach as well. They simply ask you to be respectful of residents and to park on the road to the right of the bridge (from the Center Harbor Town Beach) or just on Bean Road for the Center Sandwich Town Beach. Seems more than fair to...

Maine 4000 footer to save for last?

    Squam

Couldn't resist another beautiful day out paddling around Squam again! Put in at the Center Harbor Town beach, paddled around Moon, Bowman and Yard Islands. Saw an eagle scoop a fish out of the water and land in a dead tree to eat its sushi for lunch. Didn't see if it had any wasabi or...

Sewing on Lash Tabs/ Lash Points

this company; http://search.sailrite.com/category/sewing-machine-ultrafeed-111-professional-long-arm-big-n-tall makes good portable retrofits of semi industrial sewing machines. Small and storable if that is what you want/need. I've played around with them and they are really pretty decent for...

    Squam

Ok, kind of embarassed about this. I have lived in my house now for 14 years, less than 1/2 hour from Squam, and last Sunday was the first time I went there for a kayak... :o The first, but surely not the last! We jumped off 'jumping rock', watched 3 eaglettes and an eagle on Little Loon...
