Woman fends off bear with a zucchini

OK, then come and take the bats out of my HOUSE, and put them in yours. Like I said, I don't mind them flying around OUTSIDE. I just don't want them LIVING in my HOUSE, even if they did pay rent! :(

Woman fends off bear with a zucchini

Not a huge fan of snakes either, but I allow them to live in my rock walls and gardens. I don't mind bats flying around outside, in their own environment. I simply don't want them living in and colonizing my attic. Now, if they coughed up some rent money, I might feel different...

yes, no bugs perhaps, but you have disease ridden, torn leathery winged flying rats... I'll send them down to you if you want them! Hope all is well with you Ashley!

Woman fends off bear with a zucchini

yes, we lock our doors to prevent being 'gifted' with zucchini the size of baseball bats, but I may just want a few to hike with now! I tried that with some bats in my home recently, opeing the windows and doors to let them leave, but one in particular kept trying desperately to get INTO the...

Woman fends off bear with a zucchini

yup, I would have to hope that that 'mom gene' and the need to protect your own would kick in and give me the courage to do the best I could in that situation. and yes, the only time we lock our car doors around here is zuchini season!

Woman fends off bear with a zucchini

wow. I guess we could all hike with zucchini instead of bear spray now. Brave woman to defend her dog like that, I hope I would have the nerve to do that for Geneva, but you never would know for sure until you are put in that position. I think it was Elenor Roosevelt who said 'Women are like...

    VFTT Dog Hike October ??

Geneva and I might be up for a 'puppy' hike! I would LOVE to meet a Chinook doggy up close and personal, since I live so close to Arthur Walden's former home. : ) And I had the good fortune to meet and talk with Norman Vaughn so many times. We could harness them all up and have them haul...

    Lobster Lake, Maine 8/31-9/2 2010

Sounds like you had a great trip, nice that is was secluded and peaceful. I used to find it that way when I camped at Umbagog years ago, but the last few trips, hum, not so much... I will certainly try to get there soon, thanks for posting.

    Handicapped Dog Summits the Rockpile

What a cute pup! The person who commented they couldn't imagine a dog wanting to walk 6 hours to the summit of a mountain boggles my mind. I should video Geneva and the way she stalks me around the house when she sees me start packing my backpack to make sure she is going on the hike too...

Keeping Score - Learning How To Count

Make up your own rules and start your own list! If 75% of the hike was on X and 25% was on Y... Or if 25% was an awesome hike but 75% was torture... For me, winter hikes started after one solstice and ended before another. Fairly cut and dry. Hike your own hike! ;) I like to think of...

    Allagash trip?

Does anyone know the REASONS behind the strict regulation that your kayak must be at least 12'? Is it for safety? Capacity? something else? If this woman had paddled solo all that way already, I would imagine she had it pretty well dialed in as to what she needed and was comfortable with...

Fun action on the Jacksons - Weld, ME

Nice TR and photos! I haven't been hiking in the Tumbledown area since I was a kid... I may just have to work in a few trips in that direction again! ;)

    AT in Baxter

They must have been planning the reroute for a while, my 1989 map shows it as a road walk, but my 2002 map shows the new route... Anyway, thanks for the heads up about the parking changes, I just got my 2 passes online for the 4 days I'll be there and it cost me $10.00. I am out of...

    Dog backpack recommendations

Geneva wears a Ruffwear pack, and she does really well with it. I was just looking around online for ideas for designing her a pack, and I found one for 75% off, which was less expensive than me making one for her. It is pretty bombproof and has reflective strips which is great for hiking...
