First 4' ker: Mount Osceola for Conor, Tucker and Taylor

My family and I spent a nice 4th of July weekend up in the Woodstock area with Darlene and her 2 grandsons. The kids range from 4 (Tucker) to 8 (Taylor) and my son Conor is 5. We arrived Friday up at the campground and I was pleasantly surprised to see Stev-O there waiting on Darls site – he...

    Presi traverse camping options

my 2 cents only... and there may be more options...but from what I know: and I think this will depend on how strong your weakeast link is. It might be a buzzkill to someone not in the best shape to keep dropping into ravines, thrashing around looking for a site and then re-gaining the ridge...

Limmers: Not Your Off-the-Shelf Hiking Boots (NHPR)

everyone is different, but i was in the "big stiff boot" camp for a while for long hikes, backpacks, etc. I have very much converted to the trail runner idea for pretty much everything besides winter climbing. So, I am def agreeing with TCD and WU, etc.. I still use a boot for backpacks...

4th Weekend in NH - Family hikin'

I am going to be in the whites with the family the 4th weekend. We are doing other things besides hiking, but one of the days I am planning on taking my son (5yr) on his first 4k'er. It will be something in the easy range and the pace will be at the slow/moderate range with many stops to...

    Mt. Shasta Climb in August

assuming your going the av gulch - straightforward snow climb. You don't need rope, etc.. but of course def take your ice axe, pons, and helmet - the rocks coming off the red banks will be a flyin' esp on your way down. the town pretty much has everything you need, but still is quite...

    Hiking Toward Employment

Hiking does wonders for staying in shape, and one's ego to brag online (most do it to some extent- look what I did!!!) ...but beyond that...I can't see how the general HR rep or potential boss cares about it... I think it would be a waste of time and suggest spending the time working on...

which controversial topics are you willing to stop commenting on ?

frankly - the controversial topics are the most interesting and entertaining... One could argue that many feel this way since these have the most posts, etc... There are always the few holier than tho types that cringe on messing around on the more vocal, controversial, and "less convential"...
