    8 days, 4 hours, 2 minutes...

woo hoo! And is it true that you ate a bucket of KFC every day on your way to this new record? I think an endorsement deal is on the way! Congratulations on your accomplishment. You had some nasty conditions to deal with, for sure! Rebecca

    MSR Lightning Ascents, R.I.P.

Yay! I just received two brand new sets of snowshoes free from MSR - a replacement for the Lightning Ascents mentioned previously in this thread and also a pair of Denali Ascents (record attempt fatality) that frankly had seen better days but which they replaced under warranty anyway. Total...

Ammonoosuc, Crawford and Jewell Trail Conditions?

Hiked that route last Sat and all was good - not sure what has changed since then. Our group wore snowshoes to the hut then I wore microspikes to and from Monroe and switched to crampons for the trip up Washington and over to Jewell (but I wish I had worn snowshoes on the way up). Crampons were...

    donna does Coe

Congratulations Donna (and thank you thank you thank you to those who helped her bag the elusive Coe)! I wasn't sure what was going to happen if you were denied again! Sorry I wasn't there to join the fun...sounds like it was quite the adventure. Now you can really focus all of your energy on...

Cell Coverage in the Whites - Best Provider?

I am a long-time T-Mobile customer, and can't recommend them for decent coverage in the Whites. I have coverage around the major towns, but even Lincoln/Woodstock is spotty. I get a good signal above tree line in some areas, but I find I always have the worst coverage among the people I hike with.

Look for a donkey, a horse and a chicken man :D I am wearing an extremely loud green jacket today...you can't miss me. It's also a small place, so don't worry, you'll find us. Rebecca

    Do You Ever Hike Drunk?

If I recall correctly, the Dr. was the inspiration (or the lubrication) for a fantastic Madonna mega medley and dance routine that made the trip down Old Speck a lot more fun on that rainy day. And that certain someone might have been even more annoyed that her rain pants were falling down to...

    VFTT sighting

I know you're probably expecting the actual person to reply...but this could be a fun guessing game! I'm going to guess Bobby, since I think his "beat" is over that-a-way, and I think his SUV is white.

    MSR Lightning Ascents, R.I.P.

I called Cascade Designs today to see what my options are for repairing/replacing my LA's which both have a broken binding. Mine have cracked not at the point where the rivets are, but farther down the plate. Same exact break on each shoe. I've used them for 1.5 seasons. Anyway, the customer...

    NH48 Winter Record Attempt 1/16/10 -

Team Shake & Bake - you guys are truly amazing! Having spent a fair bit of time with the fellas over the past 9 days, I think one thing that really stands out was how ordinary things seemed when they were off the trail (nothing ordinary at all happening on the trail :)). No complaining about...

North Pole/South Pole presentation at Pinkham Notch Feb 20 Saturday

good stuff! I highly recommend this presentation to anyone who wasn't able to make it last time - great photos/video and quite educational. Oddly, I just mentioned it to someone this past weekend...and now this morning I see that Lei is doing it again!

    Why Do We Buy Fleece

I pretty much only wear merino wool - summer and winter. Ibex, Icebreaker and Smartwool are all good...every now and then they have deeply discounted Icebreaker shirts on Steep and Cheap. Might have to check out the other brands mentioned here...

    Whites - Lonesome Lake

At LL there is a common dining and cooking room, and all the sleeping quarters are in separate buildings (and can be very cold!). The common area will be cold during the day, but warms up nicely in the evening when everyone is there hanging out, cooking, etc. They also will light the wood stove...

    Garfield via Garfield Trail 1/3/2010

Participants: Rocket 21, MEB, Mats Roing, Farmer, Juniper, Hamtero Parked at Five Corners which got the plow treatment just as the group started assembling. Rocket hit the trail earlier than the rest of us, so had trailbreaking honors for the first 2.5 miles or so through the fresh, soft...
