Conditions along AT in MA or nw CT

Most of my snow is gone from by backyard in Pittsfield but there would still be snow up on Greylock I would think and it is mud season here in the berkshires. None of the stream crossings in Greylock are that bad though at least along the AT up Cheshire Harbor trail unless you go off trail...

    Flying and hiking

I presume you mean commercial flight? Aren't most airplanes pressurized to basically simulate around 6000' ASL? I think some of the spiffier corporate jets may be pressurized to a lower altitude. Jay

    Winter Baxter Expedition Advice

Hi Mike, I typically would reuse my daypack (since you're going to need it anyway) to carry things you need for the day, (water, food, etc) since it's a lot easier to grab stuff there rather than to disconnect your harness and rummage through the pulk (especially if you use a tarp rather than...

Not quite on Mansfield 2/24/13 - Mistakes and consequences

Do they plow the road in, it looks like it is easily skiable though, probably could even ski a bit into the park, at least to the base of Sunset Ridge or any of the other trails leading to the summit ridge... SoloJoe and I had a perfect snowshoe track to do Mansfield last winter, but then it...

Mt Mansfield With Only a Few Profanities - 1/19/13

Tom, I realize you might be talking about the Stowe Resort and not the town of Stowe... My first time up Mansfield a bunch of us took the Hazelton trail from the actual ski parking lot up to the Nose and then down via the LT with the short road walk back to the ski lot. I do not know...

Mt Mansfield With Only a Few Profanities - 1/19/13

You can do Mansfield from the LT which starts in stowe. Drive up Rt 108 (?) to the gate where there is usually ample parking on the sides and walk up the popularly skied road about 1/3 mileish to find the LT kiosk in the woods on the left... I don't remember mileage nor do I really care...

Rediscovering the Old trails of the New Deal - NH, VT, MA

Yup, though ascending to the thunderbolt shelter in a hour is a pretty good feat in itself... :-) There was an attempt at a commercial ski facility around where the thunderbolt trail ends in Adams, if you take some of the more meandering trails off the summit towards Thiel road, you will see...

Rediscovering the Old trails of the New Deal - NH, VT, MA

http://www.thunderboltskirun.com/documentary.html If you can catch a showing of the above which was produced by the Thunderbolt ski runners, it's a real interesting history of the t-bolt. I saw it one sunday at the Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield and it was very interesting. They also have a...

    klymit-inertia-x-frame-ultralite-pad ?

The Campmor link says it goes inside the sleeping bag, but I guess one could use it outside, as Peakbagger mentions, I have also had the luxury of staying dry if water gets inside the tent due to the pad during heavy rain... jay
