    5 days? Yeah right!

I put off including the elevation gain in my planning so I wouldn't be intimidated as much :) but I foolishly added it up anyway. So if anyone is interested the average daily gain is 13430 ft and the total gain is 67150 ft I'll edit the original post to show the daily gain.

The Hancocks in Less Than 19 Hours

I agree with Swollen Toes! Ordinary hikes won't give you that buzz you need for long now that you've had a taste of something else. Before you know it you'll be headed out for 26 hour 12 peak winter Pemi loops :D or not.....

    Wilderness Thoughts

I would agree that most of the actual harvesting was done in the winter months. Not that they were worried about impact. But do you think they "built" the roads and grades while the ground was frozen?

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

I regularly run long distances with 1 or 2 22oz hand held water bottles and have never had any issues to speak of. Although when nearing the end of a 50 is sure feels good to dump any remaining water out for the final push.

    Winter Hiking Boots Recommendations

Gear Junkie Update! Just picked up the new Salomon Deemax dry 2. First impressions are very positive. They weigh in a little heavier than the Snowtrip Ts I used last year but I think this is due to a more substantial tread pattern and stiffer midsole. These may be the perfect winter shoe for...

    Wilderness Thoughts

I would think that the main reason that the abandoned railroad grades, roads and camps lack any substantial regrowth is due to extreme soil compaction from logging activities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_compaction and for the more scholarly folks...
