    Crampons as dangerous weapons!!!

I just checked my listing on FB Marketplace and I see it is now active. That didn't take too long. I did search in marketplace for ice ax and found many ice axes for sale although they look like they might make better weapon than the crampons at least as hand held weapon.

    Crampons as dangerous weapons!!!

Come to think of it I recall a winter hike to Tripyramid's led by Mohamed E when one of the folks in our group tripped and managed to puncture his knee with his crampons. FB By the way offers chance to appeal the decision which I have done. I'll update on outcome of my appeal.

    Crampons as dangerous weapons!!!

I thought this little item would be good for laugh or two. I have a surplus of crampons currently so I thought I would try to sell a couple of pairs on Facebook Marketplace which normally is very effective way to sell surplus stuff. I posted an ad for some 10-point strap on crampons with a...

    Snowing out in Gorham

Good comment ... snow making systems are pretty complicated mechanically and electrically. Makes sense they'd be test running systems now so they can make any repairs or changes before weather gets too brutal up there on upper slopes.

more New England mountain lion rumors

I've run in house to grab binoc's and light was wrong to get a fix on colorations etc. Just fact he was a big dude. We used to have 4 X 4 beam stretched high up between two trees from which we hung a swing for the kids. One day we were grossed out when we observed this cooper's hawk was...

more New England mountain lion rumors

Our neighborhood is near Prospect Hill Park. I've seen deer herds and coyotes there over the years. We've seen red fox in our back yards. There is some sort of large hawk uses our neighborhood as hunting grounds. The key factor is very mature oak forest in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood...

more New England mountain lion rumors

My son came by this evening (Halloween???) reports a woman friend of his who walks her dog in Fox Park on border between Waltham and Newton MA. His friend called him recently very worked up about having seen a large cat in Fox Park while walking her dogs. She was so worked up that he took it...

    Henry's Ledge and Fall Foliage

Oddly enough retracing the spur back to the trail, I came across this 6 foot length of rail right maybe 8 or 10' off from Bond Cliff Trail. That's a pretty good clue of where it starts. And yeah, an email would be nice!

    Henry's Ledge and Fall Foliage

Hi Tom!!! Good question! I tried digital zooming in digital photo, but results were fuzzy. If it had occurred to me I could have used 40X optical zoom on my nifty Canon SX740 which really rocks. Check out this photo taken last week from East Rattlesnake on Squam Lake. Just for kicks I...

    Henry's Ledge and Fall Foliage

I’ve been wanting to make return visit to Henry’s Ledge for some time. I first visited in July 2012 with Scott McFadden. Henry’s Ledge offers a unique view of East Branch of the Pemigewasset River and encompasses an extensive region of northern hardwood forest. For this reason, I wanted to...

Fall Hiking Hazard - Bald Faced Hornets Nests

I rode my bike into Cambridge Fresh Pond for some exercise this afternoon and came across a common Fall Hiking Hazard - Bald Faced Hornets Nest complete with a very interesting explanatory warning sign posted by City of Cambridge. According to the sign below, this very large nest is high enough...

    Roaming around BSP

In hind sight I think the Neso BH was a bit cramped with the picnic table. That picnic table takes up literally 25% of the front room. Add in the woodstove and I'm thinking the front room at Neso BH would be pretty cramped quarters with more than 4 people. The picnic table on porch is...

Lost the soles of his Boots

A word to the wise for old folks with old gear. Passage of time is not kind to leather and plastics or particularly glue used to fasten soles on boots. Beware of old hiking boots or old style crampons with embrittled leather straps likely to snap under stresses of hiking after spending years...

USGS Topo Map Giveaway on VFTT

At first I pictured getting flooded with requests. I'm guessing that's probably not going to happen. Hopefully I get only one or two or three. I'll be happy to ship them off to most anyone who would want them and or might have some use for them. I thought I'd have use for them when I first...

USGS Topo Map Giveaway on VFTT

I’m thinking of hosting a USGS topo map giveaway on VFTT in near future. I thought I’d run this by moderators first prior to posting. I think VFTT would be pretty ideal place to offer these. I’d probably put it up for 3 or 4 weeks and pick the most worthy recipient and mail them off to them...

    Awesome (But Expensive) Airstream Basecamp

Check out the awesome (but expensive) Airstream Basecamp. Looks like Airstream can now cater to a new target market. I was driving south on I-93 this afternoon and due to slow moving traffic I was able to grab these snapshots with my phone. Somebody at Airstream must be thinking outside the...
