Spectacular day on Jefferson, Washington and Monroe 3/15

I love the undercast pictures! The one looking towards the southern presidentials with the Willey range and Carrigain behind is especially unique. Ike looks huge! Congrats :)

Dreams Realized on Washington and Jefferson 3/12/12

Awesome story Kevin. Yours are always full of emotion. Great pictures as always. I wish the weather would have cooperated over the weekend, but I'm glad the conditions were good for you on Monday! Congrats :)

Witnessing a Vision Realized on Cannon - 3-10-12

Awesome TR and photos! What an amazing adventure Randy, Quinn and his support team have had in the past few months. It was definitely a great day on Cannon. I am glad to have shared it with everyone there!

Welcoming some suggestions for a 3-4 day trip in VT or NH

I think this is a great idea. As mentioned above, you probably don't want to be on the East side of the river around melt season. It could be pretty sketchy crossing. The woods between Osseo and Black Pond are pretty open hardwoods and should make for good camping. The area around "Ice Pond" (at...

I got the last Laugh-ayette on NOAA

It also took me until my 3rd try to get a nice day on Lafayette. I was beginning to wonder what the fuss was about. :D Franconia sure has been serving up some nice days this winter, though! Nice TR and pictures! :)

    20/20 Vision Quest

What a day that must have been for them. Looks like after they summited Madison they took Star Lake, but turned around and picked up Airline? I wonder if they didn't like the conditions that direction or thought they might have been descending via Buttress? Or maybe just a stop at the lake? I...

Welcoming some suggestions for a 3-4 day trip in VT or NH

How about this itinerary: Day 1) Park at Lincoln Woods, (flat) hike in the LW trail ~3m to Franconia Falls area and camp (at a site or it would be very easy to establish a site in this area although I think it's restricted to >.25 miles from the existing site?) Day 2) Out and back of the Bonds...

Madison & Adams and some winter finishes

Congratulations!! I'm glad you finally got your weather window and it coincided with your time off. :D

How much does it cost to climb mount everest?

Slight thread drift but it seems to be going that direction anyway (with the mention of Beck Weathers etc): Everest IMAX is currently playing on Netflix instant (Also Touching the Void and some other mountaineering/mountain documentaries). Great stuff!

Hiking the Ossipee's: Mount Shaw and Black Snout

The Ossipee's are so great! Looks like a beautiful day all around! I love the shot of Chocorua with Washington behind. And the lakes too! Might I recommend Mt. Roberts if you're coming back in foliage season? It's gorgeous. If you keep going towards Faraway, there's an amazing lookout with a...

Hikers Rescued off Blue Job Mountain

To be fair, one could hike up to the fire tower and back in 20 minutes if you were moving quickly. It's less than a half mile each way if I'm not mistaken, with 400 in ele gain. I don't think there is a difference in distance or ele if you take either side of the orange-blazed loop. Going to...

    Jewell to Jefferson, Your thoughts?

Good point Kevin, I only got into winter hiking about 3 years ago. Thanks for that info! I agree that this weekend is not shaping up to be a "presi" weekend from the looks of the forecast. :(

Hikers Rescued off Blue Job Mountain

http://www.wmur.com/newsarchive/30533238/detail.html Glad they are safe. There are quite a few herd paths and unmarked trails all over Blue Job and Little Blue Job. I can understand getting lost. I think if I was lost on Blue Job, though, I'd just hike up to the top and take the marked trail...

    Jewell to Jefferson, Your thoughts?

I thought Jewell was the "standard" route to Jefferson in winter? You can add in Boundary Line>Jefferson Notch Road>Caps Ridge and make it a true loop. I may be slightly biased here. :D With regards to the conditions. I haven't been out that way in a few months. Though, with the weather this...

Emergency Backup Battery for Cell Phones

I have noticed the same thing. My car charger takes 30-40 minutes from dead to full. The wall charger, I'd guess, would take about half the time? There's definitely a noticeable difference. Great thread!

Police Investigate Apparent Suicide on Mt. Monadnock

NH State Parks FB page is saying White Dot. edit: And apparently they are wrong. http://www.sentinelsource.com/news/local/monadnock-state-park-closed-today-body-found/article_1ff46dd4-5cbf-11e1-a729-0019bb2963f4.html Either way, I hope this person found peace.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing! :)

    Washington?

I think you make another great point about the Ammo regarding ascent vs descent. It can be hard to find the trail descending in poor conditions up high, especially winter conditions with low visibility. It's easier to ascend from this perspective, you have a giant target to aim for. Going the...

    No more Kodak Moments

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16967171 I think if you've been following the story, you'd have seen this coming for a few years. Especially after the recent bankruptcy protection filing, discontinuing of products, delisting from stock markets, poor sales... etc. There are probably also...
