    First 'Daks summits 8/10 - 8/12

at least you have a semi-legitimate Growler policy in NY. Maine I think has growlers but you have to get it out the back door and use some kind of special handshake and secret password. I can see the plan coming together now for my next trip out...Growlers on the Gothics!

other highlights and considerations We were asked by several folks how we found the hiking as compared to say, the Whites or Baxter. Funny question I thought but I had to think about it. Still thinking about it all at the moment. I think we found it quite the same as when I first started...

    First 'Daks summits 8/10 - 8/12

Cold was a relative term. But tradition is tradition and those PBRs tasted mighty mighty fine up there. Being unfamiliar with the various microbrews of this area (is Saranac still considered micro brew?) we went with the old standby. What other breweries are there in Upstate? We made...

    Pikes Peak

views n brews Well, first off thanks to all of you for providing me info on Pikes Peak. Timing did not work out for me this time. But I did manage to taste just about every micro-brew in the Colorado Springs area and lived to tell the tale. Bristol, Phantom Canyon, Trinity, Rock Bottom...

The winter Pemi Loop, finally a sucess!

no pain, no gain "One time I pushed through a bunch of branches only to be greeted with a huge pungee stick that wailed me in the forehead leaving a nice bruise! Pine needles and bark got into my shirt and pants creating other problems!" Got any Schwack-cam footage? I personally love those...

    Pikes Peak

Wondering if anyone in this forum has hiked Pikes? I'm driving out to Manitou Springs beginning Thursday and am considering a jaunt up Pikes if I have the time. I've been on a couple of easy 14er's (Bross and Quandary) and am no stranger to 11 and 12,000 foot elevations- hell I lived in...

Its a saying a good bud of mine uses from time to time. Not exactly sure if its pleasure or pain but it certainly seemed to fit the occasion.:p

    Zealand - Bonds traverse N-S 3-14-09

Theme for this day: “You been doin’ what I think you been doin’, you can’t do that ‘round here…” After a gig at the Sea Dog Brewery in Topsham Friday night, I was home and in bed by 1:45AM. Up at 4:30 and out the door by 5:11. This routine is a painfully familiar one to me and I was, amazingly...

    South Twin 2-28-09

Gail River Trail is bare bootable to the Garfiled Ridge Tr. There was some minor post-holing in a couple spots but you won't see that now. We and several other folks headed in to camp out, packed it out with snowshoes later that night....anywho...we made good time to the ridge arriving at...

Garfield Ridge East and West Peaks

good to know A small group of us are headed to attempt a loop over the Twins and Galehead this Saturday. Sounds like we could see similar conditions heading up to N. Twin? 'Broken trail ahead' will be a good motivator to head out Gale River tr. -m

    What's in a day?

24 hours… This was going to be a big day. No matter how it all shook out, bottom line, it was going to be a big day. I started my day at 2:30am, had everything pretty well packed the night before and was in bed by 8pm. Not really important to the narrative but its just that I rarely take such...

    East Kennebago 2/1/09

I was actually thinking about you and your preference to skiing. The first time Pete and I hiked EK back in May '03, we did go past the stream we took the other day and we were recalling that very easy grade and open woods as we were negotiating the steep and deep route we were on. If and when...
