Thanks for doing this trail work, especially with the weather not being the best!

    Snow Free Trails 2014

I've been searching trip reports for snow free hikes to lead a few kids and found nothing, not a surprise with all the snow I saw in MWV a couple week ago, plus last week's snow and ice. But today we went ahead and hiked our first 100% snow free trail of the season. Three kids and four parents...

    Hiking with Kids

Come summer, weekdays are good for us also. Are you in Maine? We spend time in N. Conway regularly so maybe we can connect sometime while we're up that way. Mirabella, thanks for the thumbs up/+1. Spending that 1-1 or family extended outdoor time together is definitely one of the best things...

    Hiking with Kids

Happy Spring Families, My 5 year old daughter and I have spring fever. We are looking ahead to summer and would love to hike with old and new friends. I have two "big" trips planned so far: one for Mother's Day weekend and another for the 3rd weekend in June. Each about 10 miles over 3 days...

North Sugarloaf and Our Own Sugar

Today we hiked North Sugarloaf. When we parked at the first parking area 1 mile up Zealand Road, we got out of the car and saw a xc ski trail. Our 4 year old, Pink Eagle, after being bundled up took off running down that trail. We followed. In less than 5 minutes we were at a campground and...

Winter Trails Festival (formerly Snowshoe Festival), Feb. 1st

The Green Mountain Club is hosting its annual Winter Trails Festival Feburary 1, 2014. My family and I went to this last year, and it was great fun! This is an all day event held at the Green Mountain Club Headquarters in Waterbury, VT. There are little hikes on location and "real" hikes short...

    Zealand Road

We will have fun. You guys know everything. It was Wild River that was updated in Nov. and I did wonder if it was closed then reopened for some reason. I'm sort of our of the hiking loop these days. We'll bring the kid's snow shoes in case of ice since fisher price doesn't make micro spikes for...

    Zealand Road

Thanks, Dave. A different road was updated in Nov. as open. Yes, it is. That answers my question. Thanks! Hey, Chip. We are great. I PMed you.

    Zealand Road

I'm trying to plan a family hike in the Zealand area. Has anyone been to Zealand Road recently? The web site states the road is open, but it hasn't been updated since May. Thanks.

    Odyssa's Called Again Book Tour

I met Odyssa aka Jennifer Pharr Davis on her AT hike in '05. She holds the unofficial speed record for doing the Appalachian Trail - 2,200 miles in 46 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes. We kept in touch a bit so I know she is now touring the northeast and NY on a book tour for her 2nd book, Called...

A Wizard, a Gorilla, and Rainbow Poops- a family hike along the Baldface Trail

We've had plans to hike the Baldfaces originally for my birthday/ Father's Day weekend for months. When the weekend arrived (along with enviously beautiful weather) deadlines at work postposted our trip. The only make-up weekend in sight was this one. We had hoped for good weather all week. So...

    Baldface Mountian Loop-overnight

Thanks Lefty E and bcborder. I think that's everything I wanted to know! Either the col or the ledges are fine with us and I don't mind carrying water for a couple of days. I had been looking at Bicknell Ridge rather than the full loop because it seems to have all the stars (i.e. good views)...

    Baldface Mountian Loop-overnight

I'm planning a two day loop hike of the Baldfaces. Does anyone who's been there know if there are places for a two person tent between South and North Baldface? The guidebook describes some sheltered places. Would the ledges be suitable for a tent (like Pine Mtn.)? I know about S. Baldface...

    Kids' hike

I'm planning a kids' hike for the last week in June. It could be Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on what others can do and somewhere in southern NH. I've done these hikes the past three years with friends with young ones. Usually one or two families make it. I know there are folks here with kids...

I just read the article in The Hippos about your book, The Adventures of Buffalo and one Tough Cookie. It sounds wonderful. I was all smiles feeling another kid learning to love mountains. Congrats and I can't wait to pick it up. Early Bird

    Hiking with Kids

We are interested. I have a 4 year old. She may be slower than your son and she hasn't hiked up any 4K on her own yet. (We've carried her up plenty.) Last weekend she hiked Welsh/Dickey on her own. We've done lots of overnights also, and would be up for that. Keep in touch!

Lylah's First Hike...With Her Own Two Feet! Stratham Hill Park

I have a 4 year old and I loved it! Go Lylah! Our daughter's first full hike to a destination was probably to Mountain Pond Shelter. The road has since been closed due to Irene. :-( Her first actual mountain was Pack Monadnock last year. We've been exploring a NH, VT, ME Hikes with Kids book for...
