    At Least Get Jackson, 4/20/2013

Your memory seems good to me. :D Thanks for the tip on The Tripyramids last week. I went with a group so didn't change the route. We had a great day. Sue's snowman was gone by Saturday.

Is there a map of Acadia with trail mileage distances on it?

I love the Map Adventures Acadia NP waterproof trail map. (I have the same brand for the White Mountains 4K's.) We got it at Cadillac Mountain Sports in Bar Harbor, but there is a website.

Tripyramids via Pine Bend Brook Trail, 4-27-13

Tripyramids via Pine Bend Brook Trail, 4-27-13 Trail Conditions:Trail is free of snow and wet in places down low. All in our large group put on light traction about a 1/4 of the way up. Snow was firm in the morning, softening as the beautifully warm day went on. There are still several feet of...

    Spring Snow Cover Reports

Hiked Monadnock last weekend via White Dot White Cross. Tiny tiny bit of snow, so I'd bet it's snow free now. Side trails and trails from halfway House still had some snow then according to the rannger. Pack Monadnock is snow free. Early spring migrants, yellow rumped warbler, winter wren...

    Mt. Tecumseh 4/22/13

Started at the Waterville Valley Trailhead, first and only hiker car in the lot. Trail was in good shape with snow after a couple of minutes hiking. Stream crossings were no trouble in hiking shoes with poles. I wore microspikes from just before the view after the last stream crossing to the...

We Did It! 48 Finish on Carrigain, Saturday 3/16/13

Yes, you are. I would be consider myself lucky and blessed also to be able to in some version follow in your footsteps. Congratulations to both of you. The Pemi Loop youtube video you posted a couple years ago made a lasting impression on me as a new mom at the time. This is grand.

Which direction for a Pemi Loop....

I did two Pemi Loops last year and both were clockwise. I chose clockwise after searching and reading a bunch of posts here. I liked clockwise so much the first time, I figured I'd stick with it. In the morning, I'm so excited to get up to on the peaks. Catching a sunrise on Flume is priceless...

    Mountain Bird Watch this spring

Good to know. I haven't done this since my daughter was born in 2009, but for some reason I thought it was harder. I may try to make a training this year. Here is some info on that. Dear Mountain Birdwatchers, With the flurry of activity after my last email, several routes have flown off...

    Little kid sleeping bag

Thanks, everyone. That Woobie looks great! Too small for us already, but otherwise great. Raven, I like that Bass Pro one. It's lightweight and not expensive. We would enjoy another summertime kids' hike. I'll keep my eyes out for the post, but feel free to email us also.

    Little kid sleeping bag

Good stuff. Thanks! I'm breathing a sigh of relief that I don't need to make one because I am not actually that crafty. Glad to know that the Kindercone I bought will work out sooner than anticipated. My husband and I have bags that zip together. We can throw her in that. I got that idea from...

    Little kid sleeping bag

Hello, I'm looking to buy a little kid size sleeping bag that works for backpacking, not something from Pottery Barn Kids or with princesses or super heroes. I just a ordered a kid sized one (REI Kindercone) and when it arrived it's huge -looks great for a ten year old, I'd guess. Fits kids to...

    Winter Day Hike Eating Strategies

Aren't they though! It's too bad. A-Market in Manchester may carry them. They had a good bulk selection last I went, but I don't get up there often at all. Close to you than it is to me, so I thought I'd mention it.

    Winter Day Hike Eating Strategies

"I carry 3 or 4 dried pinapple circles. Since they're low-moisture, they stay edible in cold weather. Hannaford's carries them. Look in stores which have a bulk-food section." Question answered. Great! I make my own dried pineapples for summer backpacking. Guess I could carry them in winter as...

    Winter Day Hike Eating Strategies

Kevin, dried pineapple or canned? I too carry a 16oz Nalgene with trail mix in my Wet Rib. I also like Stoneyfield drinkable yougurts and a minestone or lentil soup in a small thermos which I chug at first break. Double stuff Oreos have saved my life on at least one winter hike when I needed...
