    Mapsource-Vertical Profile?

I tried to do that, but i could not find an appropriate graphics program on my computer. I will have to look a little harder when i have time.

A few pics from Phelps Mt

One of my relatives was visiting from California and he wanted to hike his first ADK peak, so I decided to take him out to Phelps Mt. It was on my list of 46'ers left to hike, and seemed like a nice moderate hike for a non-hiker. I figured if I brought him up a herd trail in the middle of...

    Mapsource-Vertical Profile?

I was playing with some saved GPS tracks of some hikes, and I can view the Vertical Profile graphic which shows the elevation change over distance, but for the life of me, I can not save this image as a JPEG or any other file at all. Anybody know how to take the elevation charts off of Mapsource...

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

I hiked the Pemi Loop a few years ago as an overnight trek. I met some dude at the Garfield tenting area that was an ultra light hiker. To keep his weight down, he carried vodka and fruit drink mixes like crystal light or kool-aid and mixed it with the vodka. One of the coolest guys ever to meet...

    tripyramids

The North Tri-Pyramid slide kind of kicked my a$$ when I did it last year. I think it was mostly because I was not expecting it from my understated guide book description. There were a lot of friction climbs where i had to jam a hand and/or foot into a crack and push myself up a mini cliff...

    GPS test on Mansfield

Lots of tech talk! I love it. Once i have a few minutes I am going to try out all these suggestions. This is so much better than dialing an 800 help number and waiting on hold to talk to someone named Samir. Thanks!

    GPS test on Mansfield

I recently received the Garmin 76 CSX as a birthday present on my 31st birthday, and I have been trying to figure the darn thing out for the last few weeks. It took many attempts, a few computer upgrades, and many hours before I could upload the Mapsource software on my computer. I downloaded...

    Recommended GPS?

Thanks for all the responses. I believe i am going to go with the 76 csx from Garmin. I found it on Amazon for a little over 50% off the MSRP, so it was around $300 with a bunch of little add ons. I believe that my wonderful girlfriend is picking it up for my bday in 6 more days. I might have to...

    Recommended GPS?

I was thinking of getting a GPS device for hiking that would show trails, track distance hiked, elevation changes, altitude, etc... Something that could spit out cool stats and maps on my computer of the hike when i am done. Anybody have any recommendations on what they use and what is good? I...

    Would you climb Mt Everest?

I would love to do it if someone paid. However, I would be less concerned about the mountain killing me, more concerned about my girlfriend killing me.

I believe the answer is 3. 3 Kittens must die, to make a proper pork fried rice dish.

A few pics from Camel's Hump

I did a quick trip up Camel's Hump today, and man was it beautiful out. The snow was really deep, probably 6-7 feet of base on the upper 3rd of the mountain. Here are a few pics if anyone is interested in or is going up there soon. This was pretty common, little tunnels in between the snow...

    Ok, I'll do it... BIG SNOW STORM(s) 2/17, 2/19!

I just shoveled 16 inches of wet heavy snow in Williston VT. Jay Peak says that they have 26-28 inches.

    Subaru Owners?

I ended up getting the Subaru Impreza 2010 today. It is pretty sweet, it has the moon roof, heated seats, and outside temperature gauge as well as the auxiliary mp3/Ipod hook up. I am looking forward to driving it.

    Subaru Owners?

Thanks for all the input and info! I am headed out today to look at some cars. Fortunately I got a good settlement for my car, it was totalled by insurance, maybe I was just meant to be a Subaru owner?

    Subaru Owners?

Are there any of you out there that drive a Subaru Impreza or Legacy? I am looking for a good all wheel drive vehicle for hiking and skiing and was just wondering what people thought about these models. My poor Mazda 3 was totalled on Sunday when I got hit, so I need to get something soon before...

    Snowshoeing around Stowe

There are two seperate parking lots for Stowe Pinnacle, both right off of roads with residences on them, so I would imagine that they would be plowed or you could at least park on the side of the road and hike up.

    Precipice and Dorr, 1/31/10

Yikes! That trail is hard enough in the summer. What's next, the Knife Edge on Katahdin in January? Dorr mountain is one of my favorites on the island. I snowshoed it in January a few years back and it was a pretty sweet trek, pretty straight up and down from the Sieur de Mont Springs...
