    Why Do We Buy Fleece

Gratuitous plug I like both wool and fleece. No preference either way. In my biased opinion though, definitely check out the Ibex gear as others mentioned earlier in the thread. They are one of my customers I work with at my bank, and their clothes are really nice, and they are really nice...

Potential New Year's blizzard to blanket New England mountains

I just cleaned off my driveway, and can confirm that Burlington VT got 24 inches of the fluffiest snow i have ever seen.

Potential New Year's blizzard to blanket New England mountains

We had about 3-4 inches in Burlington VT through this afternoon, and i just checked outside and my car has 10 new inches of snow on it since about 6 o clock tonight. It is dumping.

    AMC Executive Director pay

Do they post their financial statements online to the public? I would be curious to take a look at them and see a breakdown of their expenses. In my mind, it just doesn't compute how you charge $50-$100 for a night stay at a hut multiplied by the average number of people at a hut at given night...

    AMC Executive Director pay

Ha! Sorry about that one. I woke up early this morning, my brain was in a fog. He would still be over priced in left field or center. Not relevant to the conversation though, so please no one respond to my stupidity. I agree with dentonfabrics about him bringing in more than what he makes, that...

    AMC Executive Director pay

I think Chomp summarizes everything perfectly, as far as how I feel on the issue. I have never been a member of the AMC and will never likely be a member of the AMC. If you do not like the fact that he makes $300K a year, then do not financially support any of their business revenue streams...

    Your favorite photos of 2009

I always love seeing the "best of" photo threads. My 2009 unfortunately was spent attending batchelor parties and weddings instead of hiking, so here are the few photos of hiking that I have this year from the times that i remembered to pack my camera. Gothics in the ADK's Indian Head in the...

    Do You Ever Hike Drunk?

I post frequently while drinking, never drink while hiking. I should put a breathalizer on my keyboard.

Why do you (or don't you) hile solo?

I tend to hike solo a lot b/c of many reasons. Mostly b/c i am very spontaneous. I like to hike on sunny days, when the sun is shining and it is warm. In the Champlain Valley, the weather forecast changes every hour, either there are many weather patterns that cross here or the meteorologists...

    Do You Ever Hike Drunk?

I am in the "natural high" group, I get the endorphins kicking in during my hikes. A beer would probably bring me a bit down off of my high. I have to say, I am really looking forward to the first alpine episode of "Intervention". Ken Seeley will look quite powerful at 4,000 feet standing atop...

Tripyramids, for Dejah’s 48…ah, not so fast

Good idea to turn around. I hiked the north slide a few months ago, and it was as intense a trail as any in New England that I have hiked. At least on the day I hiked it. I would be surprised if any dogs have made it up the slide. By the way, there is an alternate route to the top that starts a...

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

I used to be concerned about being a lean mean machine, but I realized that God had other plans. If i cut calories, my metabolism just slows down, so i dont end up losing any real weight. I work out a lot at the gym, but once i get a good rhythm going, i always end up throwing out my back...

Hiking in the Sierras. (Road's End to End of the Road)

Unreal photos and trip! Would you say the worst hiking spots were a lot nastier than our nastiest trails in the east? Nice pics of Half Dome, the cables were down when i was there, so now i know what the top looks like. I might have wimped out had the cables been up anyway... it was a good...

Mt. Hale via Fire Warden Tr. 9/30/09

Nice trip report. I saw those same "lovely" signs around the Hancocks. Makes me wonder why they devote so much time to removing trails and bridges? Glad my parking fees are being used to take down bridges and trails that my prior parking fees helped pay to build.

    The Tripyramid slides

the Hancocks I did the Hancocks the day prior. There was a lot less excitement on that hike, aside from my irritable stomach from the prior night's Switchback beers and dozen hot wings. Anyhow, here are a couple pics, I think they sum up the hiking better than my rambling thoughts.

    The Tripyramid slides

The sun came blazing down, right into my eyes, making it’s first appearance of the day. I tried to look directly above me, up the slide, but I could see nothing but bright light. It was at this point that I realized that either the slide was going to injure me, or my girlfriend was going to kill...

    Flagstaff Lake Hut

Sweet pics of Flagstaff and the hut! I was really interested in seeing what the hut looked like, as i have visited the Poplar hut a few times, but I believe the Flagstaff hut was still being constructed last xmas when i was there. I am really interested in seeing the Grand Falls hut once that is...

    Shhhhhh... I'm not telling...

I have never seen Lake Champlain as gorgeous and rocky as in those pictures. Beautiful pics of Champ, the lake monster as well. Also interesting to see the Lake turn from blue to tourquoise at the border when the water is converted from Canadian to American units.

    Bigelow

I would start out in the Stratton area at the parking lot near the Mainely Yours restaurant, hike up to Cranberry Peak, and then over to West and Avery Peaks. I believe you can descend down to the road off of Little Bigelow, and then follow the lake around back to Stratton, but not 100% sure on...
