Cedar Brook Trail reroute in progress???

Very nicely. All of Cedar Brook looks good for skiing (once we get snow) with the exception of two really large blowdowns just past the Hancock Spur trail. Hopefully the Forest Service can take care of them before the snow flies. There is one really tricky spot just before Camp 24. If skiing...

    Spring Wildflowers 2015

That appears to be a Pine Cone Willow Gall. This particular gall is caused by a Midge laying an egg on the stem of the willow. The willow then goes into overdrive forming leaves which never really mature but form these pine cone type galls. We recently saw some galls like this as we were...

    Wings Over Cherry Pond

I hiked out to Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge recently for the umpteenth time. About five miles or so to hit both Cherry Pond and Little Cherry Pond. All the trails are in the AMC White Mountain Guide so some good redlining for those who have never been there. Lots of flying stuff.

    Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal?

This is my favorite bridge in the White Mountains. It's construction replicates the land in which it resides, rough, wild, and isolated. I like that the bridge is built on a foundation of two 60' long trees (pine? cedar?) adding to the wild feel of this bridge. Irene gave the bridge a good...
