    1st Edition WMG

Google also has the 1907 (1st Ed) available: AMC White Mountain Guide 1907 And the 1917 (3rd Ed): AMC White Mountain Guide 1917 With mention to the rise and fall of lesser trails, excellent comparisons can be made between the 1936 guidebook and the one that followed in 1940. The Hurricane...

NJ bear attacks 2 young campers, is wounded

If is was determined that the bear didn't injure anyone ("didn't cause the abrasions"), why the classification as dangerous? He was just doing what bears do. Unfortunate for the bear.

Interesting Back Issues, hiking 70's style

I especially like that the criteria for selecting a high altitude/winter tent includes cookholes. . . Here's a link to nearly all issues back to Winter 1973: Backpacker Mags Perhaps you'll see me on a ridge this fall in a oiled wool sweater.

    Bear Attack Fatality in Yellowstone

I was thinking the same. I sure hope they leave them alone and let them be bears in their habitat.

Dry trail. Great trail for a hot day as nearly all of it is in the trees. The bugs are out in full force. Had on Ben's 30 and was only bitten a couple of times. Hiked with Eli (dog). He enjoyed the cold spring.

Green Mountain Club names new executive director

Again, I agree. However, Mr. Wiquist isn't from the "generic non-profit world"; he's been a press secretary for three-and-a-half years with the federal government. His experience would demonstrate that there are few who can broadcast the GMC's message more clearly, to a large and perhaps newer...

Green Mountain Club names new executive director

My sentiments exactly. I have many reservations about the selection which I will not detail. However, I do know some of the directors and trust them with their decision. At this point, only time will tell.

    Parking passes ?

I spotted a mountain lion late last evening. It vanished before I could snap a photo with my iPhone. I'll be quicker next time.

Proposed Donation for a Maine Woods National Park

More of a rhetorical question but, given that Ms. Quimby had lived in Maine for many years and has a keen interest in land conservation, I am curious why she wouldn't consider donating the land to the state as an addition or complement to Baxter State Park? Could be federal tax incentive or...

Proposed fees for Search and Rescue in NH

Perhaps NH F&G could get out of the SAR business altogether. Simply relay the calls to local SAR organizations (volunteer or otherwise). No more helicopters. No more $30k searches. After all, it is the "live free or die" state.

Nickerson State Park in Brewster has a large campground. Brewster is a great little town and you'll be close to the National Seashore (and the Land Ho in Orleans). It fills quickly, so I would check on availability sooner rather than later. Nickerson State Park
