Looking for a little "Boot Help"

I purchased a pair of Limmer Standards in the spring of 2002. The day I was up in Intervale Peter Limmer was manning the shop. He really new his stuff. He looked at me and my feet, grabbed a pair of boots and nailed my size. He had me kicking the wall of the place to ensure that my heals...

    Baby on their backs

Did any children ever offer you hotdogs and beans conveniently stored in their flashlights? Actually, I do not have children, but I am finding this discussion pretty informative. I do believe that anyone carrying a baby/child could take a spill anywhere and accidently injure themselves and child.

Saving Digital Photo files for long-term

I use a 250GB external HD for active back-ups. Twice a month I slide recent files over to it. Twice a year, I save all photos to CDs.

    “a series of ill-considered decisions"

Talk about dumb luck making that wrong turn and ending up at Bamforth Shelter. Not simply as cover from precipitation, which wasn't a factor in this case, but as a landmark to relay their position. Seriously. How much more unprepared could one party be?

    Need CAR for backcountry roads

We have a VW Tiguan. Absolutely fantastic! All trim lines have a 4 cyl. 200hp engine, great clearance & tons of space inside. The split rear seats not only fold flat, but slide forward (like the front seats) if you want to carry people, but require a bit more cargo room. The best part by...

Backpacks, how many is too many?

While I don't have a hiking room, I do subscribe to the plastic bin storage system. We live in Boston and have a private roof deck which I do utilize for tent setup/drying (aka: backyard). It's good to know I am not alone when it comes to packs, as I have a half dozen for assorted trips and...

Lost back country skier sues SAR for taking too long

Generally speaking though, responsible hikers/climbers who enter and exit the wilderness without incident, are judged and held accountable by themselves (and their respective parties). When an incident/accident occurs, hikers/climbers should be judged and held accountable by those whom they are...

Lost back country skier sues SAR for taking too long

My thoughts exactly. I think folks who sue sometimes forget that whom or whatever they are suing does not necessarily have to stick around. If SAR is going to become a target of lawsuits, the organizations, many of which are either run by municipalities or volunteers, will simply stop...
