Views from Wherever - What are your favorite viewpoints for various summits?

So many.... I'm a Pemi guy, so the view anywhere from Zealand Notch, Zeacliff, Guyot, the outlooks from Shoal Pond looking up at Zealand Notch, or at Carrigain, Ethan Pond, from the dam at norcross pond...the list goes on. Also, the Davis Path coming off Washington towards Boott Spur...it...

Sorry skiguy! I haven't been on views that much lately. Well, I think you got your answer from that storm haha. Basically southern, SE, and E side of the mtns did well, while the other sides were shadowed. Not much upslope after the storm, but we have a couple more inches coming tomorrow...

    1-19-13 Cannon Mtn "Traverse"

There is def no easy way up that mountain. It was a great test for my limits, and I'm glad I did it. Butt sliding was eye opening...I can see how you can easily get hurt doing it, but I was very controlled.

    1-19-13 Cannon Mtn "Traverse"

I succeeded on my 5th winter 4K yesterday, which was Cannon Mtn. Let me say, it was NOT easy. The route was the Lonesome Lake trail, with a little side trip to the hut, and then the Around the Lake trail, back to Lonesome Lake trail, to Kinsman Ridge trail up the summit, and down to the tram...

Beginning winter hiking - which trails to start out on?

Lots of great ideas! I am far from an experienced winter hiker, but I have dabbled in the easy, and more difficult treks. Here is what I have learned on the higer peaks. 1) Mt Pierce: My first winter 4K. Crawford Path is nice and usually broken out. Just be careful if there is a blizzard...

Hanover/Lebanon First Snowshoe of the Year

.....and hopefully many more to come!! Last Friday 12/28/12, I took a hike in Hanover and walked home to West Lebanon, not crossing a road till 1/2 mile from my house. Not bad, if you ask me! There isn't a lot to say, but I was kind of rushed because I only had about 2 hours of good daylight...

NH Proposes Fee If People Need To Be Rescued

Whoops, fixed. Thanks. Yeah I'm not really sure about any of that. Actually I'm pertty uninformed by the whole thing. I just know that if I was to get rescued, I would want the rescuers to have good gear. If the costs go to that, then I am all for it. It would be interesting to hear the...

NH Proposes Fee If People Need To Be Rescued

http://www.wmur.com/news/nh-news/Hikers-rescued-in-NH-would-pay-a-fee-under-bill/-/9857858/17796880/-/item/0/-/uh2osn/-/index.html The fee could run somewhere between 350 and 1000 bucks. Honestly, I think it is a good idea, esp if you are being a dumb hiker and aren't prepared. In the...

12/7/12 Mt Wantastiquet and the Madame Sherri Forest

Looking at the writings, I believe the Mine Mtn highpoint is the peak 1/2 mile (trail distance) from the Wantastiquet viewpoint of Brattleboro. This is the exact description of the view from Mine Mtn, and the only place I could spot Monadnock. I think the entire mass of mtn is prob...

12/7/12 Mt Wantastiquet and the Madame Sherri Forest

Yup, the ruins are no more than 100 yds in from the parking lot. I think the area is snowshoeable...nothing steeper than tough stuff in the whites. There are a few stiff climbs. The parking lot is quite large, and its along Gulf Rd in Chesterfield. The road is dirt, and a bit narrow in some...

12/7/12 Mt Wantastiquet and the Madame Sherri Forest

Yea, me too! Very interesting place, indeed!! And as for the music? I heard stuff in my head. :) Yes, I hit pretty much every little rocky high point along the way, searching for other views. And you are right, its more of an eastern bump for the Mine Ledge. I was confused with all the...

12/7/12 Mt Wantastiquet and the Madame Sherri Forest

Part two... the northern peak was the highlight of the trip. The views were great, and there was a neat rock outcropping. This is where the timber rattlers supposedly live (or used to live) in NH. Ct River Don't slip!! After playing on Mt "Want" we headed back to Indian Pond, and...

12/7/12 Mt Wantastiquet and the Madame Sherri Forest

I went on one of the most unique hikes on Friday, 12/7....Mt Wantastiquet in Chesterfield, NH. This is very close to the VT border, in the extreme SW corner of NH. The beginning started in a Society for the protection of NH forests easement called the Madame Antionette Sherri forest. This...
