Don't Ignore The Symptoms Of Heart Issues!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Finnski! And your 1st post at that! Nope, I'm having everything done at New England Heart Institute at CMC in Manchester. From what I've been able to gather, they are the best in the area. I know that CMC has a satellite office at Monadnock, but if something goes south, I want to be...

Don't Ignore The Symptoms Of Heart Issues!!!!!!!!!

So I had the stress test and nuclear imaging done, and I have one partial blockage. Went back and forth with the cardiologist and decided that since imaging doesn't show all potential blockages, we will go ahead with the cardiac catheterization and if there is only one blockage, he will insert...

Don't Ignore The Symptoms Of Heart Issues!!!!!!!!!

Great info here. 10 years ago my father had 6 bypasses done at the same time and he is still doing good at 86. I never realized that genetic predisposition is such a large factor. Thanks for all of the information. My stress test is scheduled for the 24th. Hoping that a stent or 2 will fix...

Don't Ignore The Symptoms Of Heart Issues!!!!!!!!!

This thread was prompted by reading of the passing of member Paradox. I only wish that I could inspire as many hikers as he did. I hiked Skatutakee in NH last weekend and felt out of sorts. Had to stop a lot and catch my breath. Never happened to me before. Took a few walks earlier this...

Appalachia Parking Area - The New Lafayette Place?

The small lot for the East Royce Trail in Evan's notch was full yesterday, never seen that happen before!

Balsams Update - Go Big or Go home

Ok, I'll simplify. I don't trust Les with $28 million, and the layout for the resort is lacking any serious vert that would entice skiers to drive 1 1/2 hours north of 93 or 1 hour past SR on 2 lane twisty roads in winter. Gee, why wont a bank lend him the money unless the state guarantees...

Balsams Update - Go Big or Go home

As a NH taxpayer, I welcome this decision. The proposed resort is a bunch of 900-1200 vertical trail pods, unless I am missing something. Lots of acres, but not so much continuous vert. SR is similar, but has pods with 1,500 plus vert. I welcome Les to prove me wrong, but this was a pie in...

Appalachia Parking Area - The New Lafayette Place?

Temple Mountain NH lot had 5 cars today when I arrived. Is this because everyone is focusing on the 4k's instead of closer hikes? The views were limited, but watched a porci groom itself a few feet from the trail. Also, the blue bottle gentian's were quite prolific along the trails.

    Monadnock via Pumpelly

I agree, saw these shroms below that I have never seen before, yes they are that red!! The road pic is from a mile south of 137 in Hancock on Middle Road.

    Monadnock via Pumpelly

It's been a long time since I posted a trip report, but due to the recent flooding in the Dublin NH area, I wanted to give an update. The Pumpelly trail is completely passable, but is very wet with water in places that are usually very dry. Not surprising considering the recent rainfall...

    Wet & Slippery

I find that Merrill Moabs have given me the best traction. I have yet to try the Moab2, but the sole appears to be very similar.

    Which Bald Mountain in Maine?

Be aware the that the dirt road approach from the north is was a little bit rough. I didn't do Speckled as my time was limited, but I really want to return. Here is a pic of Speckled from Bald.

    Which Bald Mountain in Maine?

It is in Woodstock, here is a link. http://www.franklinsites.com/hikephotos/Maine/baldmtn3-2016-0703.php I did this a couple of years ago, nice hike. Nearby Speckled Mtn has cliffs near the summit, I have pics that I will try to locate.

    Banner Year For Ticks??

Thanks for the detailed info peakbagger, I met all of the criteria, as I had to increase my estimated attachment time to 36+ hours, so I got and took the 200 mg of Doxy ealier today. The spot of the bite is about a quarter sized raised red angry lump.

    Banner Year For Ticks??

I have lived in SW NH for almost 40 yrs and tonight was the 1st time that I've had a dear tick embedded on me. 3 other ticks so far this year were dog ticks, and were catch as they were still crawling. I'm sure that this one latched on in the last 24-30 hours, so I should be ok according to the...

    EMS parent firm declaring Bankrupcy

Wow, how did I miss this? I live 4 miles from the Peterborough (former) headquarters store and I hadn't heard about this. So sad to see another outdoors retailer about to go under. Most of my gear has an EMS label on it, and I will really be sad if this comes to pass.

    Jay Peak & Burke...

Thanks, I was going to post on this last night but you have now echoed my thoughts so it is unnecessary. As much as the north country really needs this, I can't see that it is feasible in any way.
