New Product - Hillsound Freesteps6 - very similar to Kahtoola Microspikes

I was in my local EMS store today and saw these Hillsound Freestep6 today. At $39.99, they look like a direct competitor to Microspikes, but these have small silicone anti-balling pads on some of the spikes. I still have the Hillsound Trail Crampon knockoffs but I thought that others may be...

It is listed on this link National Forest Road Status as open. (scroll down). I can't imagine that it would close before 12/1 unless heavy snow occurs.

Leave The Wallet In The Car! - And Open Thank You To An Amazing Hiker Couple

Wanted to hike Monadnock today, and to avoid the crowds I started from the Gilson Pond Trail head for the Birchtoft Trail. Only a few cars at the parking area so I decided to carry my wallet in my pack as I knew it had some cash in it. 1st mistake, I should have tucked it under the carpet under...

Not much for bluberries this year

SW NH is extremely dry, the latest round of thunderstorms missed us completely. I went up North Pack on Sat (7/22) and even the usually medium sized 1st stream crossing was bone dry, no water at all on the trail. The berries at the 1st set of ledges were all small, wrinkled, and pretty sour...

RT 2 Trailhead Parking for North Presis

2 years ago I parked at Lowe's for an overnight to King Ravine as I had a van packed with goods for a vacation in Maine. There had been break-ins at Appalachia at the time and I was glad to know that the van would be safe. At the 2nd day, I did find the lower half of Lowe's Path to be a long...

    Elwell Trail...another side of Cardigan

Very nice pictures and tale of your adventure. I also go through lots of liquid on hikes and now carry my filter on almost any hike over 5 miles. Do you have a filter? If not, it might be a good investment!

    What camera do you use?

I also use the SX130. Great wide angle, 12X optical zoom, and image stabilization. I miss an optical viewfinder but other than that, it's perfect for me. I still have my trusty A570is for a backup.

June is the cruelest month . . .

Come to the Monadnock region and hike some nice smaller mountains. Almost no black flies, mosquitoes, or deer flies during the day light hours. Edit: Also, only 2 ticks so far, both of the canine variety.
