What do other people think about the new NG GMNF Maps?

I've noticed close to a dozen trails missing, and that's just ones that I've been on before and so actually noticed. Overall the maps look nice, but I'm now wishing I hadn't bought them since there's so much missing. If I was National Geographic I'd be ashamed that my name was on them. As for...

Current Information About CVR Condition - Please

I wouldn't bother with 'whacking back to South Crocker. Just walk the roads back. The valley it goes thru used to be pretty scenic itself, it's an easy walk, and probably shorter time-wise. Sue did it once so she should know the way. :D

property owner sued for faulty tree stand

"at or below the level of intoxication" What level of intoxication? He wasn't driving. What is the legal level of intoxication for falling out of tree stands?

Is There a Similarly-Worded Trail Sign Somewhere in the Whites?

Not in the Whites, and not similarly worded. But probably one of the better warning signs I've seen.

    Biggest "nature" let down?

You got it. But replace grad class with 10th grade English class and instead of driving from Concord ride 4 hours each way in a schoolbus from southern Vermont. Another place that sucks is Lake Tahoe especially if you were at Crater Lake just a couple days before.

    Wolf Spider's Intelligence

Whoa, miniature human brains and eight legs with the ability to live in harsh environments? We should be thankful that they don't have opposable thumbs as well lest they overrun us. Although, I, for one would welcome our new wolf spider overlords.

Best spots to find Gray Jays

I've also encountered them most every time on the summits of Carrigain, Zealand (he was especially fat), Old Speck and halfway or so down the Jewell Trail.

Wrestling the Osceolas. January 16, 2011

The road is a groomed ski trail in the winter so it's pretty easy, although kinda boring. The trail isn't bad but like you said it doesn't get a lot of traffic and was a lot of work for 2 people to break trail on after a heavy snowfall, but it was still easy to follow where the trail went. I...

Why is the number '19' posted on many trees on the Avalon trail?

There's a '38' with bright orange paint very similar to that on Oak Ridge. But since that's not a 4k I'm not surprised that no one else noticed it. I assume it's related, not have no idea what it's for.

    National Parks in Winter?

When I was in the Arches I asked a ranger at the visitor center when a better time to be there was since it was so God awful hot there in August. She hesitated then asked where I was from. When I said Vermont, she said that the winter would probably be a good time. They only get a little...
