    Wapack S to N 9/24/11

Enjoyed your trip report and pics. A few of us did the Wapack in a day in 2010 but we did it North to South. It's a great hike.

    Colorado & Utah

Sounds like a great trip! I was in Wyoming and Utah on Sept 11th. Unfortunately only driving through. Some great terrain. Wished I could have detoured to Colorado and spent some time hiking all around the west. Glad you got the chance to get out there.

    GPS or Map & Compass?

I always bring a map and compass while hiking. I will usually bring my gps as well, but not always. On a recent 6 day trip on the AT I left the gps at home to save the weight. On the other hand I've been glad I had the gps a few times as well. It was helpful navigating down Mount Hood in the fog...

    Taxi Service

I'm considering a backpacking trip from Gorham through the Mahoosucs to Grafton Notch. I may be doing this solo so I need to get a ride back to Gorham. Can anyone recommend one of the Taxi/shuttle services out of Gorham to provide a ride? I checked the AMC website and here are some of the...

Sen.Chuck Schumer wants ADKs patrolled by Reaper Drones

A-10's and other fighters fly through the Whites all the time. I don't see an issue with the drones.

    Boot Spur to Mount Washington

Boot Spur Trail to Davis Path and Lawn Cutoff then the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to summit of Mount Washington. I took the Lion Head Trail down. Boot Spur Trail was in good shape. There was not too much mud below tree line. There were a few piles of new lumber along the trail. Looks like trail...

Checking in From the AT, Part 4

Double Bow, Keep putting one foot in front of the other. You know we are all here rooting for you - and some are a bit jealous (like me) of having the chance to hike the AT. Keep us posted and hopefully some of us will be able to join you at some point up here in New England. Woody

Speed hiker attacked during record attempt on the Appalachian trail

Amazing that a thru-hiker would be attacked just because he was trying to set a speed record. I hope the authorities catch the ba$tards. Contrast is not usually needed to rule out bleed from head trauma or stroke. ctsparrow is correct that a CT scan would be the study of choice for head trauma.

A trip and fall ... broken wrist

Mohamed, I'm sorry to hear about your fall and fractured wrist! I'm always worried about taking a tumble going down hill. You're looking at the bright side though; at least you can still hike. It was a pleasure to run into you on the Valley Way Trail on Friday. I hope you heal quickly. Woody

    Wapack Wandering

The Wapack is one of my favorites, especially since it's close to home! You did it the hard way - going north.

    Trail Work

Wapack Trail I had the chance to help build my first waterbars during an April 30 trail work day with the "Friends of the Wapack". I first worked with "the Friends" in the spring of 2009 cleaning up the damage from the Dec. 2008 ice storm. We actually did have a lot of fun doing the trail...

    Mid-State/Wapack Trail Question

Swamp, I don't know of any trails linking the Wapack with Monadnock area trails or running from the Midstate to the M&M at least north of Worcester. Woody
