    Mt Shasta attempt- 7/25/2010

Darlene, Sounds like a great trip, even without the summit!

Climber dies on Emmons Route, Mt. Rainier

Doug makes a great point. The thought I have is to save some energy for the trip down. People push themselves so hard to get to the top of Rainier and other similar peaks that picking up cramponed feet is difficult on the hike down.

    Presi traverse camping options

I would agree that there is nothing to find for camping spots going down Sphinx trail. It is very steep and for anything legal you have to drop down into the Great Gulf all the way down to the Great Gulf trail and then towards the Six Husbands intersection.

Hiking partner - one day VT hike

I'd love to do that hike with you, but my vacation doesn't start until July 1. There are some great views from the top of Mount Ellen. Unfortunately the only time I have been up there I took the chair lift, but the skiing was nice too. Have a great hike and thanks for the info about the taxi...

Any suggestions????? (Looking for relatively easy hike)

Does the hike have to be in NH? How about Wachusett. Lot's of interesting hiking without the commitment or snow. Pack Monadnock is also a good idea in southern NH.

Descending the Dudley Trail - Katahdin

rup - here is a link to some pictures of a hike that Alan and I did a few years ago. We went up the Helon Taylor trail accross the Knife Edge and down Hamlin Ridge. These pictures should give you a good idea of Chimney Notch and the Knife Edge.

    Helmets.

I won't wear this helmet hiking but I do tend to wear it several hours a week. It is one of my most important pieces of equipment. I also wear a helmet climbing rock and ice, skiing and bike riding.

Do you mean the rope and screws or Alan? :p

    Would you climb Mt Everest?

I would give it a shot if I was given the money and had the time. I would agree with others though. I think there would be some interesting climbs without all the crowds that I would prefer to do. If I had 6 months and 60 grand to spend on climbing I would spend time in the Alps, Alaska, and...

    On climbing..

Court, You are kicking butt! :D No wonder I feel like an old man! I have enough trouble doing one gully in a day! Maybe I need to lighten my load and dump the rope and screws! Way to go!! Woody

MEB - That is an awesome accomplishment! I wish I could join you for the hike. Instead I'll be playing in the Molson Old Timer's Hockey Tournament. You can be there will be plenty of beer at both events!!:)

Is GPS just a 'Stupid Guy Thing?'

For the most part my GPS is usually a toy, but it has proven to be very useful in a whiteout/fog above treeline at least a couple of times. It's the time I put in playing with it that let me be comfortable with it when I really needed it. I probably could have used my map and compass for...
