How often do you wash your clothing and gear?

    Possible Late April Pemi Traverse

I read the title of this thread and I immediately had the same thought that Dave expressed above. Rotten snow season is time to stay home and clean up the yard.

    Online Backup Services for Photos

Personally I would not rely on an on-line service to back up my pictures. On line services like Flickr can drop your account with no warning and no possible recovery of your data. This is basically for serious violations of the account terms but it is possible. I keep a external hard drive...

A Different Kind of Big Mountain Experience

I haven't done a lot of skiing in the past few years and I am missing it. The skiing report makes me want to get out there. Keep the reports coming!

    Connecticut Ice is Nice !

Nice Ice Chip, I didn't catch this thread originally. This place looks pretty nice. I'll have to go check it out some time. It is kind of weird to drive south to go ice climbing instead of north, but I even have to drive south to get to Auburn and CT is not that much further. Thanks for...

For you Paris Expedition Sled fans and other boreal fools

I just bought two of them. I found them at the local Aubuchon Hardware store when I went in to get ice melt for my driveway. I grabbed the last two in the store. I gave one to my brother. I haven't used it yet but hope to with some trips coming up. Woody

    Crawfords at Dusk

I like it. It is not realistic looking but I like how the train station jumps out at me. It is art!

How do you guys do this???

I much prefer to stay over night but sometimes family obligations require that I spend the night at home. For those day trips I generally try to keep the driving to less than 3 hours each way. I might strech the drive time if I can share the driving with someone else. I have driven up to...

    Willey Ladders

I wouldn't advise glissading over the ladders on the way down. I've done it and felt lucky not to be hurt. My son was glissading behind me and I yelled to him and he was able to self arrest with his ice axe at the top of the ladder.

Beer night at the " outlook " 1-13-09

I was hoping I could make this event, but it looks like I'll be spending some time that evening on a frozen indoor pond with blades on my feet and a stick in my hand.

    Winter Camping in the Berkshires

The Greylock area is ok. There is a shelter just off the AT close to the summit I believe. It has been a while since I have been out that way.

Ice Safety this winter of '08-'09

I was thinking about how safe the ice was on the first day of winter when I snowshoe'd across Lonesome Lake. I was going to stay on the trail and go around the lake but there was a well defined and broken out path in the snow going straight across towards the hut so I figured it was safe. Alan...

    Grivel G10 or Microspikes?

G10's I have G10's and microspikes as well as a few other pairs of crampons. If I could only get one set of traction I would get G10's. The G10's will take me anywhere the microspikes could, maybe not as comfortably on my feet, but I could get there safely. On the other hand, microspikes...
