Avenging Hoffman and Blue Ridge; screwy-ed on Lewey

If I could stop climbing mountains long enough to write more, I would love to! There's not enough hours in the day!

Any web resources for navigation and/or bushwhacking?

Looking for web links that are general informational/teaching sites about bushwhacking and or navigation skills in the mountains. This is for a project I am working on for someone. If anyone knows of any good web links, please post ‘em. Thanks a lot!

Avenging Hoffman and Blue Ridge; screwy-ed on Lewey

Adirondacks climbing TR: I climbed Lewey this past weekend. Cold. The wind was as if the mountain was spraying liquid nitrogen on me - who was the wart of a hiker it was trying to freeze off its surface. I had to break the trail the whole way since the Sucker Brook trail looked like no one had...

This is the most honest and hilarious ski area conditions report I have ever read:

Mad River Glen Good news for some: a soft opening of the Sunnyside Double is slated for later this morning. Show up sometime around 11 a.m. to catch first rides and free-range to a slew of conditions up top. Scouting missions in the last 24 hours found highly variable surfaces that would make...

14 Peaks documentary is out today

The documentary about the climber who scaled all of the World’s 8,000 meter mountains in like 7 months. I am looking forward to watching this!

    Jay Range

Sounds intriguing, thanks for the tip!

    Jay Range

I think all three of these mountains are great - Jay, Slip (Ausable 3), and Saddleback. I understand why folks don’t hit the true summit of Jay, because you’re not gaining anything view-wise that you haven’t already seen on the ridge. However, I like going to the highest point. Both Slip and...

    Snowing out in Gorham

We got a half inch at very high elevations in Southern VT yesterday. So awesome; I am psyched for the snow.

    Baxter update, 10/18/2021

I didn't make it up there this year, but I am glad to hear good reports coming out of Baxter. It is such an easy problem to fix.

    Baxter update, 10/18/2021

Hopefully some of the Baxter Rangers have improved their attitude towards visitors. A little more of a welcoming attitude and friendliness would go a long way at BSP.

    Maine 2021 - Solo P2K Peakbagging

Awesome photos! That was cool to check out. Nice work man!!!!! A couple comments - Number 4 mountain is one of the most outrageously remote trailheads, if not the most remote trailhead, in the Northeast. It was odd - it felt like the Number 4 mountain trail never really gained much elevation...

Here's a mountain in remote extreme N. Maine that few have done, - Rocky Mtn>>>

Katahdin Valley Motel was great! Right off the interstate, clean, inexpensive and super easy. Definitely not fancy, but it was totally a fine place to stay and I would stay there again for sure. I did not go through Canada - I took 95 North to Route 11 to Fort Kent, then headed west on 161 to...

Here's a mountain in remote extreme N. Maine that few have done, - Rocky Mtn>>> Here’s a mountain way out in the sticks that perhaps none of you have done: Rocky Mountain 2010’, Maine. And a new all-time ludicrous record has been set for the hike/drive ratio. It’s all about Page 66 on the...

Looks like the whites have heavy rain potential Friday into Saturday

Agreed. I would say southern Vermont appears to be out of drought at this point. My pond is at peak levels. Rivers and streams are much higher than they've been down here and the ground seems super saturated.

    Piermont Mountain

First I climbed Table Mtn: I took the Bear Notch Rd to the trailhead for Table Mtn. This is a super easy trail that feels almost flat for the first mile, Very gentle. The summit delivered on the views commensurate of being on the 52 WAV list. I only have Mt Hayes left in Gorham to climb to...

Connecticut High Point, Tristate Point, and Nearby Mountains

I absolutely love that area too. Cool report. The southern Taconics are great and have a cool feel to them. Hit Mount Alander sometime - that one is a total gem in that area!!
