Mud Pond + Mt Pemigewasset (via Bushwhack + Mt Pemigewasset Trail): 17-Dec-2011

Some photos taken during this trek are at my BLOG. Mud Pond is located about 0.8 mile NNW of Mt. Pemigewasset. It is an easy bushwhack through predominately open hardwoods, although there are some occasional patches of hobble-bush and thick conifers. The bushwhack was launched from the Mt...

Thompson Falls + Unnamed Ledge via Forest Road (FR 379) + Unnamed Trail: 10-Dec-2011

My trek was launched from a Forest Road (FR 379) in the North Conway area. Access to this road is now gated at the north end of High Street. (During the summer months you can drive and park at an access point that is closer.) I don't know all the factors that trigger the closure of a road for...

    Brutus – In Memoriam, 2000-2011

Kevin, please accept my sincere condolences. In case you haven't seen it yet, Steve Smith posted a truly excellent tribute to Brutus on his Mountain Wandering blog. (Click HERE for link.)

Sawyer River Road - Construction Equipment

For what it's worth, shown below is a snapshot taken on October 1st. It appears that there were stakes in place at that time as well.

Mt Jasper (Berlin, NH) via Mt Jasper Trail (03-Dec-2011)

A trail work project was done in 2011 by young workers in the Jobs After Graduation (JAG) program. Trail experts from AMC's Camp Dodge provided leadership and tools to assist the program participants with the rock staircases, improved drainage, and treadway definition on a mile-plus segment of...

Pine Mountain via Pine Mountain Trail (from Gorham village trailhead): 03-Dec-2011

The trail was overall in good shape. There were some easily negotiated muddy spots, plus there were a couple of blowdowns which also were easily negotiated. This wasn't my first visit to Pine Mountain, but it was the first time I'd ever hiked to it via the Pine Mountain trailhead in Gorham...

    Mount Martha, Dec. 2

Mohamed, it's completely understandable that after hiking to Mt Martha there might be a shortage of energy & desire to continue onward to Owl's Head on my adopted Martha's Mile trail. I've often thought that the hike to Mt Martha rivals the trek to some of the 4K peaks. Regardless, you got...

    Coppermine Trail after big rain

Great report and photos! Karl, according to Robert and Mary Julyan's book "Place Names of the White Mountains", the Coppermine Brook "received its name from the copper mine on its banks. Copper ore was mined here for many years in the 1800s and smelted in the iron foundry in Franconia."

Lila's Ledge via Crew Cut Trail and Liebeskind's Loop Trail (01-Dec-2011)

This mini-trek to Lila's Ledge was launched from the Crew Cut trailhead on Rt. 16 near the Wildcat Mountain ski area. The Crew Cut trail was generally in good shape with one notable exception. Within a short distance from the trailhead there is a section of trail (perhaps 75 feet or so) that...

Thompson Falls via Thompson Falls Trail (01-Dec-2011)

The trail was generally in good shape. However, there were numerous muddy spots all along the route. I'd never hiked to this particular location. Perhaps I'm just easily impressed, but I thought the waterfalls/cascades at this location were impressive. A few snapshots are at my BLOG.
