Mountain Rescue Service speaks up about State billing

From the Conway Daily Sun article (referenced in the original post): The state, however, did not see it that way. Horgan had the gear and the skills to survive hostile conditions, Maj. Kevin Jordan of the Department of Fish and Game's law enforcement division said, but "that's a separate action...

Pressie Traverse Comments and Advice Sought

If N to S: - unless the weather is bad, drop your pack at the Madison Hut for the side trip up Madison. Hiking in Montana

You're flying into Billings? How about Yellowstone. Even though most of it is in Wyoming, three of its entrances are in Montana. About three hours from Billings to Northeast gate of YNP. Even if you didn't enter YNP, the drive alone is worth it.

Would a "summer pulke" be anti-LNT?

About 5 years ago I had a one-year subscription to Backpacker Magazine...silly mistake. I seem to remember among all the block ads in the final pages of every issue, there was an ad for exactly what you're describing. If you can get a hold of some old (and maybe even new) issues, scan the ads...

    That 70's Show

Recently got a hold of a camping/hiking photo album (circa 1978) I hadn't seen in decades. Stopped at this gas station in Greenville, Maine, on the way to Ripogenus Dam and then Gulf Hagas as well as other stops. Note the "Regular" and "Unleaded" gas pumps, and the "Game Inspection Station"...

    Walking Music

I have a slightly different take. In addition to about a hundred other artists, Jimi Hendrix and Norah Jones are permanent fixtures on my MP3 player...talk about polar opposites. Neither of these two musicians, nor any other musician, has the effect of making me hike more quickly or more...

Spring Skiing in Tuckerman Ravine ?

Given the little snow and high temps, is there any hope for spring skiing in tuckerman ravine this year? If so, any guesses as to the best time? The MW OBS Wildcat webcam doesn't point at the ravines anymore so it's tough to tell what's still there. Thanks.

    Snowshoes in the whites...

You get a kick out of people that have snowshoes on for no apparent reason. Some people get a kick out of people who are almost always wearing crampons. Different things make different people laugh. Keep in mind that some people might have cold hand syndrome (Reynaud's?) or maybe severe lower...
