    Zealand-Bonds Traverse, Sunday September 6

Great TR. Now I 'm worried. I'd better get a VERY big head start on Saturday! (I hike at sloth pace, and only run if I'm being chased)

    Strangest trail activity you've observed?

A woman on Osceola in a bikini and flip flops. No pack. No water. Came up from the East peak, spent a few minutes at the summit, then trotted off down the trail. Husband was inthralled. I was worried that she had no water.

Pat and Audrey's Pot Luck November 7

If life doesn't intervene, I'll be there. I want to meet Leo...and of course all of you. BTW, I used to live in AZ, gets a bit warm there from May through October, and you can fry an egg in July!

Yes, I am quite excited. This is the 1st year I've requested the W/E off to participate. I'm just a bit nervous about my pace (SLOW). I'll get there though. How is the knee?

Can sunspots and Acorns be wrong???

I was thinking about the acorn thing as I slipped and slid on many this past W/E on the Wilderness Trail. BRING ON WINTER!!!!

    I hiked with an umbrella...proudly

So if I use an umbrella, will I see bears and ospreys???? The woman I am following on Trailjournals, (coincidentally named 'Trainwreck') uses one to protect her from blazing sun in the desertand above treeline on the PCT. Nice pics.

    Huntington's vs Castle trails?

I agree. Green Meadow is nice. It being Labor Day W/E not sure if they will have availability, but nice CG nonetheless. Sandy

    Huntington's vs Castle trails?

Pinkham is part of the AMC lodging system. www.outdoors.org Reservations :603-466-2721. You can stay for one night. I checked and they have availability, call for rates. Depends if you are an AMC member or not. I think the price is somewhat steep (between 60-70 dollars), but the location can't...

    Huntington's vs Castle trails?

I found this hike exhausting. Stayed in Pinkham, but Dolly Copp is a very nice CG and is just up Rt 16 from Pinkham. I'm sure plenty of people sleep in their cars, but I can't imagine sleeping well in the Parking lot. I don't think it is allowed, either. You can also crash at Hermit Lake. Sandy

our 48 finish now on SUNDAY (30th)

Congratulations you guys! I am so sad I had to miss this, by my hiking bud, daughter Hannah came home from running camp with hip flexor tendonitis. Maybe next time. (you will need to repeat the 48 for Sage)!!! Sandy

    Huntington's vs Castle trails?

When I went up Huntingtons, the slab was the only worry. I had psyched myself so much that I started the slab already scared. I did slip and fall (my greatest pre-hike fear) but I didn't go far. Friction is a wonderful thing. I do however wish I had shoes with better traction. As long as you...

    Owl:1 bear:1

I'm fairly sure it was you and Annie I saw around 5:30 pm in the parking lot at Lincoln Woods. Next time I'll introduce myself. (I was the solo hiker sitting on the ground in the lot until I saw all the red ants and got out of there!!) Sandy

what digital camera do you use?

Olympus stylus I badly mistreat electronics. I also fall in rivers alot. This camera gets banged around on rocks, wet/soaked, frozen in winter, and still works great. I'll admit that some of the landscape photos are not of the quality of the others mentioned here, but I like that it handles...

Headache while hiking. If not dehydration, then what?

Get it checked out. There are many causes fo headache from the annoying to the potentially catastrophic. Please don't ignore headaches that are not helped by painmeds. On the other hand, a little caffeinecan help. I carry excedrin migrane (from the other thread, I am a mobile drugstore:D)...

Do you take painkillers, ibuprofen, etc. when hiking?

I guess I am an anomaly, and should stop hiking, climbing and skiing. I take Aleve, before, and after a hike. I carry with me aspirin and tylenol and also carry a narcotic pain med. When I blew out my ankle 3 years ago I wished I had the narcotic. I haven't used it yet, but I have it as a...

    Car Camping near the Beach

We liked Clearwater CG in the Lakes region. Beautiful lake, dogs allowed. (not on beach though) If the baby has not had all shots, you might consider segregating her a bit, to prevent exposure to doggie bugs that she may get exposed to. All I know is that every cg we have visited with our...
