Sawyer River Road walk for Carrigain condition ?

Here is a pic of the washed out area from this past Sunday: You can walk the road the whole way, or take the packed down path near the Kiosk and follow it up to the washed out area. It was pretty cool seeing this guy biking up the road: fyi Petch

A Freezing Frosty good time on Isolation for a 48 Finish!

Thx for the replies folks! Ryan: The guy you referred to is Jorge. He's quite the mountaineer and has done peaks all over the world. He usually ice climbs all Winter, but does Winter hike with us sometimes. Keith: it is good to be back in action, but the day belongs to Kate. She earned it! Petch

    Pleasant Mountain, Bridgton conditions?

A buddy of mine went up Ledges the other night during the full moon. Used Microspikes with no problems. Ledges trail gets a lot of use, but we do have 1-3" of snow coming tomorrow...... fyi Petch

    Au Revoir, Resolution Shelter

I went up the Davis path this past summer. I believe they have decided to move any tentsites to the top of Stairs mtn. There were a couple unofficial sites up there, but now one of those small square wooden signs with tent shape carved in it- is at the beginning of the Stairs Mtn spur trail...

    Carrigain via Desolation trail

Nice job you two. Breaking trail going up the Desolation trail must have been brutal. I did that same loop this past summer- no snow!, and I got my a$$ handed to me going up the backside of Carrigain. I can't imagine it on an unbroken snowy trail.... Farmer: I ran into you on the Twins back in...

A different question about winter boots

Kiinda what the other folks are saying- Down booties around camp, Hot water Nalgenes in each boot, put boots an an empty stuff sack and shove them down in the bottom of your sleeping bag- if you have room. I recently bought a Marmot Lithium and got the "long" just for this purpose. Wear the down...
