Team Dom attempts Denali May 21 - June 10th

The strange thing is that they found them at the same elevation as we were when we turned back. They came up the Cassin Ridge though so we were probably 1/3 mile from them or so in distance. We are going back next year in early June. Some of the same crew and some new faces......

    Waltham brews anyone??

Thanks Gillian for organizing a very fine gathering in good Irish style :) They ran out of many good brews there during the night.....biggest group of VFTT'ers I've seen in a long time :) Plenty of parking a block up the street on the right.....maybe 100 spots behind the buildings...

Pemi Loop with big moose encounter

I think so.....on a Pemi loop in 2007 there was one on top of Bondcliff. Had another encounter on top of Cabot so they are probably working on regular peak bagging lists as well.

    Nutrition question for long day-hike.

To make things simple - just buy a 4.4 lbs bag of this and start hiking - it's pretty amazing how much quality content is in here. It's way better than most things you can buy for humans in a regular food store: http://www.karmaorganicpet.com/products/default.asp?id=1503

We had to put Genie down today

My deepest condolences as well.......Genie had a great life with you two taking care of her. I believe Genie was thinking along those lines in her last moments. Sabrina's words are just perfect so I'm just including her comment here as well. Hugs, Mats

    Nutrition question for long day-hike.

The olive oil swigs or flaxseed oil swigs manipulates the body to burn more fat since it gets signals that more fat is on the way in. I like to try to see how many miles you can hike in either of these scenarios - basically you hike until you pass out: * No water, food, drugs or any intake is...

    Nutrition question for long day-hike.

Beer and Subway's /and or last night's pizza work great for day hikes......if the subs get smelly due to heat I eat fresh pine needles to disguise the taste....adding some olive oil helps with the fat burning process also....I usually have a little olive oil bottle and take swigs every couple of...

I wear the Osprey's a lot.......sizable front belt pockets....nice mesh back....and the big pocket on the back is perfect to stick the snowshoes in during winter hiking......The Atmos 50 you can get for below $150 when on sale......that's the one I used for the 48 Direttissima in 2007.

Hiking into rescue operation in Dry River 5/24

One of the goals in rescue operations are to avoid further injuries and incidents.......just got an X-ray of my right hand and it was fractured :(....at least I didn't slow down or complicate the rescue :)

Hiking into rescue operation in Dry River 5/24

It's just that when you look at the map the impression is that the junction is right after you cross the river and no need to head up a tick or two to the real junction. It would help if the red line on the map went up north a little bit more after the river crossing. Or placing a sign right...

    WODC Outlook, May 2009

It's a bit like "What can your country do for you vs. What can you do for your country". Just put yourself in the landowner's situation......
