    Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail Maintenance

Not an easy trail to maintain, that's for sure! Nice work

White Pocket, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona

This past May, I was able to finally able to pay an overnight visit to White Pocket in Arizona. I had been wanting to visit this place ever since I visited "The Wave" back in 2006. You can't get here without a high-clearance and 4WD vehicle, so I rented an early 2000s Jeep Cherokee in the...

    Easy-ish hike with nice views

Like waterfalls? Bridal Veil Falls is on the backside of Cannon Mountain. 5.0 miles round-trip on the Coppermine Trail with moderate grades. Everyone loves this hike that does it.

    Overview of the 52 WAV

I just finished up a new overview to hiking NH's 52-with-a-view list and thought I'd share. It is such a fun list to complete - as enjoyable as the 4ks in my opinion, and often less crowded. 52 WITH A VIEW LIST

    Proposed Huntington Ravine Warning Sign

Mt. Washington is the tourist mountain of all tourist mountains, so I'd like to see a sign. The very steep Holt Trail on Cardigan has one. Although as mentioned above, Huntington Gorge in VT keeps increasing its body count, even with a sign.

    Katahdin Hiking Guide

I didn’t realize that the rangers allowed you to day hike Katahdin from Russell Pond. Are you 100% sure on that? Great point on the GPS – I will add some notes about that in later today. Another great point on the northern entrance – I should warn people not to try entrance since speed limit...

    Katahdin Hiking Guide

Good point on the shade, but I just find almost no joy in this trail. It's right up there with the Fishin' Jimmy Trail on Mt. Kinsman in NH in my opinion - I dread it every time. From now on, I'm climbing Hamlin every time I do a loop on Katahdin.

    Katahdin Hiking Guide

So I chose 25 as the magic number for most lists on the site, even though it is a bit arbitrary. And you are totally correct - something on Kansas' top 25 list can't match something on California's. However, the point of the lists is to show that there are worthwhile things to do in every single...

    Katahdin Hiking Guide

Lousy weather today allowed me to finally finish my online hiking guide to Katahdin: Hiking Katahdin This one has been on my to-do list for a few years. If you've got some time available, I'd really appreciate your ideas on how to make this page better (i.e. feedback / corrections / ideas for...

Coppermine Trail to Bridal Veil Fals

Trail is 99.99% snow and ice free. Very little mud suprisingly. This is a fantastic, 5-mile round trip hike that is extemely family friendly. The falls are gorgeous right now, with some snow and ice to the side of the falls still lingering. There is even an iceberg in the pool below the falls...

    EMS Going Bankrupt?

I've been predicting this for 2 years. The fact that they changed their return policy to the worst in the industry was an indication that times were not good. Hopefully an REI comes to NH!

    Trail Adopters Needed

I highly encourage everyone to consider adopting a trail. It is one of the things I enjoy the most in the mountains. 2-3 days per year is the norm if you do adopt a trail. If you've been thinking about it, take a read over of this webpage I made which provides an overview of trail adopting in...

Family Friendly hikes near Lake Placid this time of year?

I'm headed to Lake Placid with a group of about 20 people and I'm wondering if there are any good short family-friendly day hikes in the area. 0-5 miles round-trip I'd say. Any other recommendations on what to see and do in this area or within an hour would also be helpful. Thanks!

One more thing - this BBQ restaurant in Phoenix was just voted the best restaurant in the United States by Yelp. Probably worth a try (or for every meal) https://www.yelp.com/biz/little-miss-bbq-phoenix-2

I hear good things about McDowell Sonoran Preserve, but haven't been yet. Next time while in AZ, hopefully! Have you been to Sedona? If not, then: #1 hike in Sedona = Oak Creek Canyon / West Fork...but only if you continue upstream in the actual river for 0.75 miles after the official...

    Saguaro National Park, Arizona

You probably already have this on your radar, but definitely climb Wasson Peak (western district). There are several routes, but Hugh Norris Trail is the most popular route. The American Southwest website has great trail info on both sections of Saguaro...
