To GRID or not to GRID that is the question...

To me, doing the GRID is certainly an impressive feat. It's very hard - especially for the month of April due to rotten snow and swollen streams. Anyone who is working on the GRID or has completed it already really impresses me. That being said, this country (and even the rest of New England)...

    do people actually own rivers/streams?

legal question - do people actually own rivers/streams? or only the land leading up to the waters edge? Or is this different by state? most curious on ME, NH and especially VT!

    Alphabet Photography Game

G is for guidebooks. I love hiking guidebooks, but sometimes photography guidebooks are better at helping you find amazing places to shoot. I especially love the "Photographing ________" series. See here...

    Alphabet Photography Game

D is for DSLR. It's heavy and bulky, but it WILL take better shots than a point-and-shoot!

2 days just north of SF

Alcatraz in the plans? I'd swap one of the two days of hiking for a trip there. One of the coolest places I've ever been. Highly recommended

Scott, check out the pewter summit markers on mountain climb.com. They only have a few 4k peaks, but they are great. Get the small holder or photo frame holder as well Example: http://www.mountainclimb.com/products/carrigain-paperweight

Bridal Veil Falls, Coppermine Trail, NH - Sunday 5/18

Performed annual trail work last Sunday on my adopted trail. Cleared 5-6 small blowdowns, trimmed the whole trail, and dug the waterbars out a bit. Trail is now in great shape and only has a few small sections of avoidable mud. No blackflies out yet. Waterfall looked great with tons of water...

Spring Gathering! Weekend of May 9th, 2014 (North Conway, NH area)

So the weather forecast isn't looking so hot for the 1st half of this weekend, so this event will now be from Saturday morning through early Sunday afternoon. Should be at least 10-15 in attendance based on the facebook event I have with some of the old-time VFTTers. New & old members (and...

Balsams Update - Go Big or Go home

My vote would be for a huge expansion of Dixville Notch State Park. Of course that's a pipe dream as well.

I might actually do the opposite and go check it out. Never been up there. What time do you recommend we get to pinkham to at least get a parking spot within a 1/4 or 1/2 mile?

    Trail Adopting 2014

Just wanted to throw out my support for trail adopting. I adopted a trail 3-4 years ago and it has been an absolute pleasure to take care of. I cannot stress enough how rewarding it is. It's sort of like going to the woods with a charitable purpose. Urge you to give it a try and if you don't...
