No, pet dogs are not allowed in Baxter State Park.

Well, I have never used a fire ring, created one, nor set a fire in such an area,,,, NOR would I dismantle one (could dismantling one be considered destroying a historic artifact?). The reality is, people are going to use the forest, whether it fits with rules we agree with or not.....

No, pet dogs are not allowed in Baxter State Park.

OK, so, I've been thinking about the no dog rules and other rules of various institutions..... now to revive this topic :) Kind of to change course a bit, BUT, you know how the WMNF rules are that you cannot camp/build fires/etc within 200' of certain trails/bodies of water...

Mass. man drowns in Franconia Brook

Unfortunately, a very dangerous spot. Prior to this, August 2015 was the most recent death there - a 17-year-old. Before that, I couldn't find anything online but recall a man who fell in trying to rescue his dog a few years back (the dog survived), the body took at least a few days to...

    Skiing "Tuckerman headwall"

Does that mean she skied over the lip? Would there have been enough snow in June '46? Is that possible? Or, more probably, she skied whatever remained of the snow in the bowl (probably Left Gully)?

    Lost hiker in the Pemi

The trails in the Pemi on the East Side of Franconia Ridge (Franconia Brook/Lincoln Brook) are not maintained for "winter" travel, right? - it is not surprising people get lost in there if that's where he got lost. No bridges/minimal maintenance..... these rescues cost FAR more that a...

Hiker Unplanned overnight in the Pemi

Very scary when unplanned.... I am SO glad he's OK!!!! I used to hike with him occasionally but haven't seen him in years. I would be absolutely HORRIFIED to be in the news in this scenario - of course, better than the alternative such as dying of exposure in the Pemi.....

Lincoln Woods Trail - near washout

interesting,,, by the way, they could just close that short section near Lincoln Woods - the east end past the fence is accessible via the Bonds :)

Sue Johnston. "Grid" in "One Calendar Year". Year 2016

Given how most of these trails are so eroded, it is definitely amazing to do this in 1 year. Does she also work a full-time job? (Just curious???? 1 grid is more than enough for me....)

Personal experiences with emergency locator devices

I used to have a SPOT but yearly fees were too high. When I told them that, they brought the yearly price down to around $50? I cannot recall exactly, but, it was negotiable. Decided to go with a ResQLink PLB - like it but it is heavy. I'm often out of cell-phone range and I'm pretty...

    Proposed Antrim NH wind turbines

Another pristine pond with an industrial wind plant backdrop.. SAD!!!! If you don't think it's a bid deal, go paddling and camping at Pillsbury State Park. Why not just put turbines up on Mt Washington in the cog ROW??????
