hahaha
doesn't bother me - would be cool to stay there when the wind is freaking howling - wonder if there is enough sunlight for solar - hehehe - perhaps some "common sense" cog reform?
I just did North Kinsman today - will be similar to South Kinsman - conditions with rain midd-week will change things significantly by next weekend - making it even more slushy and possibly freezing up after the rain!!!

hmmmmm,,, my advice:
- start small - something short
- learn some map & compass skills (lots of options for how to learn)
- get a locator beacon - everyone I know carries one (NOT a Spot)
- wear stuff you don't mind getting ripped as your outer layer
- I pick based on something having a name on...
Welllllll, I figure as long as I can walk, I can hike. There are many really flat trails, even rail trails, that don't have many rocks. As long as I'm moving, however slow, that's fine. I wouldn't mind being the slowest hiker EVER,,,,
Hi! very cool! The more you look, the more there is to find out there!!! (that location near SW twin went on my hot list a month or so ago - very cool to see your pics!)
By the way, that stove picture (at least, I think it's a stove) is freaking OUTSTANDING
terrific report - i always look forward to reading about your adventures - they are inspiration for my own adventures!!!!
quick question - your little river exploration - i am assuming the slides that are nearest S Twin (on the west fork of the Little River)? Not the other set of slides on...
Yup - that's me - done a couple times in the last month or so but NOT from the Sleepers. I tried from the sleepers last year (or 2 - ?) and ran into a HUGE beaver swamp where the trail should have been. If I looked for a cut-in west of the actual Woodbury Trail junction near Downes Brook...
I believe that means some kind of equipment such as light traction is required if the box was checked off by the report submitter. For instance, for your report you checked off the "light traction" box.
Where can one access data on the WMNF usage rate? I'd be interested on any numbers for increases in usage over the past 10-20 years. It seems as though the high-usage trails (even, gasp, in the "wilderness") are getting completely eroded!!!! I tend to avoid trails to 4K's and when I do go...
I have a prepaid Verizon plan (no contract) - cost is the same as the 3GB Sprint plan for 3GB/mo: about $45/mo and I bought my phone outright. The few hikers I know all have Verizon.
I have not been there in some time - I know you want a more recent report but I have not seen any recently. HOWEVER, it is an easy bike ride from the kanc to get to the eastern end of the trail - you might want to survey it yourself. HOWEVER, traditionally - the several times I have been...
wow dave.m -- very impressive setup - that's the only stove type I do NOT have. I too have an Esbit I use for backpacking - nice and small and light, but STINKY fuel pellet. My go-to for car camping is Jetboil, and, if I have time to linger, my Biolite.
DayTrip makes some excellent...
I think they say that because following RR tracks can get dull, BUT, there are some neat features like the little building(s) along the track and actually going under Jacob's Ladder, seeing the sign, looking into the cirques near Jacob's Ladder, etc.
yup - not a preferred hiking route. Popular skin/ski route but I still have black grease on my skins from crossing over the tracks 2 years ago. Outstanding views from near Jacob's Ladder - a unique perspective and well worth visiting at some point, though!!!!!
