    Mt Clinton Trail

Hah - nope - I got zinged at least once on NETC for a comment I made, (and my friend got zinged as well) - I leave it as an exercise to the reader to explore :)

    Mt Clinton Trail

The cool thing about redlining is you get to see some surprises such as the states of various trails. There are other trails out there that are pretty challenging to follow as well (I won't say which as I don't want any trail maintainers to get mad), but, there is a LOT to explore :)...

    Herdpath Beta for Wildcat

I seem to recall many a bootleg glade trail in there

Lost Trail in the Pemi!!!! Where was the East Side Trail - North End???

The old section of the wilderness trail (on the west side of suspension bridge) leading to the base of the Bondcliff Trail is very obvious and the debris thrown into it to prevent hiking is pretty much cleared out. Seems to see a lot of use and for good reason - it's a TERRIFIC trail section -...

USFS removing Rocky Branch Shelter #2

It does seem as though the elimination of shelters (many, many!) just forces people to go to the ($$$$$) huts. Am I the only one who finds the tent pads (with rocks around them, elevated, spreading over much larger footprints!) to be just as "offensive" as shelters (which weren't offensive...

Moriah Brook Bridge Closed in Wild River Area

You also want to be careful where the Spider Bridge used to be - if it's flowing, watch out. In any case, it's hard to avoid having to cross the Wild River but everything is so dry, water crossings should not be a problem right now.

    Mt Clinton Trail

personal opinion here - easier to follow going downhill - not sure why. i remember looking back uphill and saying myself, "THIS is a trail????? Where????"

Moriah Brook Bridge Closed in Wild River Area

To my knowledge: There are only two suspensions bridges remaining in Wilderness areas: Dry River and the Great Gulf/Madison Gulf river crossing near "The Bluff". NOT in a Wilderness area, but, providing access to trail system include the following: - the suspension bridge crossing the Pemi...

Moriah Brook Bridge Closed in Wild River Area

Hi! No idea about the future projects.... BUT, a friend just crossed the bridge less than a week ago (apparently before the sign was put up) - she saw no problem with it. Water is low now, so, you could take your chances at the crossing... BUT, if it were me, I'd take the bridge as long as...

    Mt Clinton Trail

I think someone actually did some trail clearing last summer, but, it doesn't take long to grow in!!! :(

Moriah Brook Bridge Closed in Wild River Area

That bridge isn't actually in the Wilderness but leads shortly *to* the Wilderness. Sounds like it might be replaced?

Mt. McKinley officially to be renamed back to Mt. Denali

A few years back when I went to Denali National Park, it was referred to as either/or.... or, to a tourist: "DENALI/MCKINLEY" Didn't matter to me, but, the state should be able to choose what they want to call it!!!! If they want Denali, fine!!!!

    Mt Clinton Trail

hmmmm.... two years ago it was horrible when I hiked it - very difficult at each stream crossing. Last year, it was really obvious due to flagging, mostly. (Both times descending). Both times were for redlining or helping redline. It's a challenge in there, for sure!!! So, after...

Lost Trail in the Pemi!!!! Where was the East Side Trail - North End???

ugh.... I am NOT surprised this happened. I have gotten lost on "trails" in the Pemi as well. The HUGE kiosks at the trailheads showing the trails/HIKESAFE/bear warnings/etc/etc should tell EVERYONE that, in a Wilderness area, EVERY hiker should be prepared for off-trail travel. Not...

    Common NH feature/peak names - ?

Actually, something seems amiss to me... I can think of at least 4 Sugarloafs: Nash Stream, Twin Mtn, Benton, and Bristol/Alexandria/Hebron (locations might be a little off, but, they are close), and, at least 4 Owl's Heads: pemi area, Hebron, Benton, Twin Mtn... wondering if the different...

    Common NH feature/peak names - ?

Hi! I know asked this before (years ago!!!) and someone had a script that listed the count of the top USGS (I think???) feature names with a count and the locations. Would anybody be able to drum that up again???? I cannot find the listing anywhere!!!! Such as, Owl's Head, Black Mtn...

    Fatality on Champney Falls

I would guess the accident rate increases with usage. There has been an increase in usage - I read recently that applicants to the 4000-footer club have doubled in the last 12 years. I would guess that correlates to general trends. We can also see the accident info from online sources such...

    Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal?

Wasn't really that hot - just a nice day - and other hiking trailheads were CRAZY busy....Hancock Notch TH as well? No deep water in there either - ? I'm thinking that all these shows/movies/etc on survival in the outdoors such as Bear Gryllis, Fat Guys in the Woods/etc are having an...
