Shortest Continuous Footpath of the New Hampshire 4000'ers

Ha, I remember this. The route would have to be modified today with Rocky Branch and Dry River trails in the state that they are. :(

Presi Traverse - Lake of the Clouds to RMC's Gray Knob Questions

Not really, youth-camp style mattresses laid on the floor.

Hi, Tom. I traveled the LBT through your stretch, from south to north en route to 13 Falls back in May. I found it little trouble to follow for the experienced tramper and no worse for wear than to be expected by a trail of it's nature. Only at one spot near the height-of-land did I get that...

    Bigelows & Horns (6/30), Sugarloaf (7/1)

Good to see that, from the looks of it, the Maine Parks and Lands has cleaned up the burnt remains of the Avery tower? And also, that the 2x10 over the South Branch Carrabassett is still chained to the rock in all it's glory. :D Nice pictures.

Mt. Isolation and Boott Spur 6/30/12

Had a great hike up Mt. Isolation and Boott Spur on the 30th. Up Rocky Branch, Iso East, and Davis Path, then north from Isolation on to Boott Spur and down Glen Boulder to a stashed bike. This hike completes my second round of 48 and it so happens that I also finished my first round on Iso. I...

Not pushing (my family's) limits: smaller WMNF outings sought

Rumney Rattlesnake!! A small lollipop loop off Buffalo Road in Rumney, NH, it can be found on the "Moosilauke-Kinsman" AMC map. Great view of the Baker River valley. It's a stiff but short climb with good footing and little mud, usually.

Pushing my limits, looking for bigger loop ideas

If you wanted to get crazier with this loop with mileage/elevation, maybe add Zeacliff via Twinway or Zeacliff Tr. (out to Zealand Mtn?) and down Zeacliff Tr (or Twinway.) Zeacliff trail has two tricky down-climb pitches near the top, but otherwise just steep for a descent. If you were...

    NH girl saved by tourist

Many of the NH residents visiting the WMNF I'd consider "tourista." But, it takes all kinds and it's all good. Point taken and agreed.

    NH girl saved by tourist

Swollen isn't exactly how I'd describe the rivers up here, recently. This just sounds like an honest accident. Lower Falls certainly is one of those places who's danger some tourists don't always respect.

NH F&G: Bear Activity High: Homeowners and Campers Should Take Precautions

Very high. Two bear sightings in two days on Rt. 3 in Campton. A large one took it's time with the dumpster the other night before I was awoken and clapped it off, 4-5 bags shredded. Back yesterday across the street at Chesley's Glory Station in broad daylight, Sunset Grill dumpster was raided...

Ahh yes, the white whale. Nicely said. Congrats on the accomplishment, I've enjoyed following along.

Mink goes after hikers near summit of trailless peak

I was thinking the same thing, that it is possibly not a Mink away from the streams near a summit. Aside from a Martin, maybe the smaller Ermine?

Vermont's Long Trail - Please Recommend 14 days

Start at Rt. 73 (Brandon Gap) and hike north. That should be time enough without rushing to reach the CA border and you'll see the best of the LT. According to my End-to-Enders guide (very useful,) that is 148.6 miles of fun. If that's too much/too little, just go to the next gap north or south...

Another Lost hiker rescue on Washington

I'm still just kinda baffled that Vinoth was a mile or so from the road, uninjured, and couldn't get out on his own in 11 hours. It was bike week and surely there were loud bikes within earshot. Smart enough to attend MIT, but can't punch his way out of a wet paper bag? Wonder what he was...

    North Weeks Encounter

I noticed those herd paths a couple years ago then I did the same trip that couple were trying, the 17ish mile out-and-back to North Weeks. Ya gotta really love hiking and the forest with little in the way of views on that one!!! Anyway, I think I followed the eastern herd path for a bit to a...
