The best hike I ever did......

Just another TR...Mats prowling for the ladies with a heroic Hans working the wing. Does a dude in a wheelchair work as well as a puppy? A great lesson for all about how to face life head on and look right into the eyes at the toughest it has to offer. You are very courageous to share this my...

    VFTT peak list

What a cool list. I see no possible way to include Owl's Head :p And Donna may have to go to Coe more than once :D

    Bonds from LW 3.7.09

We hoped that the miles on skis would be easy. The potential drawback was the possibility of fighting high winds coming back across Bondcliff. Snow depths on Bondcliff Trail put branches at face level. Lots of face-rakers and eye-jabbers. Skis would've constantly hooked on branches for long...

Tough Day Pliny Weeks Range Traverse 1/31/09

Way to go pulling together as a team to battle through a tough situation. Great example for all. On Saturday I went up to South Weeks from the fish hatchery with Steve-o and donna (who predicted a 5-6 hour hike on packed trails ). When we got to Willard Notch the trail was no longer...

Tecumseh 1-31-09 Finishing the NH48 list that someone wasn't working on :)

Hey Gig maybe we can start a club. I haven't finished any list yet and I started nearly three decades before you  I'm cool with all that other stuff though. Jen what's up with the list bagging  I thought you were a purist who hiked for all the right reasons

Bondcliff. Only Bondcliff the 2nd group 1/24/09

I sure was envious thinking of the team on the other side cruising out on skis while I did that blanking road walk. Congrats for tagging Bondcliff on a tough day.

W48 completion on the Bonds 1/24/09

Welcome back Mats! Now that you got that warmup hike out of the way you should try something tough. Congrats on 48  Amazing job by you and Jeff. Couldn't believe how fast you got out. Gillian that was my second try also. Both times temps were double digit below zero. Let's go back on a...

Wildcat - accessing via ski area?

KRT does not go through Kinsman Glade ski trail. A bit more than halfway up there is a fork. The more obvious path is to the right. This will lead you into Kinsman Glade ski trail. KRT actuallly goes left (and up more steeply) from this point. Once you reach the ridge the trail can be hard to...

More Efficient to Hike or X-C Ski?

I learned a good technique for long approaches from a highly esteemed VFTTer. Put your pack in a sled and pull it on skis. When you reach the trailhead change boots and leave your skis and sled for the return trip. It feels awfully good to get that pack off your shoulders at the end of a long day.

    Lafayette & Lincoln via Skookumchuck

That's what I thought. Didn't have much water left when I stopped to layer up so I decided to turn back. Some of the most amazing lighting conditions I've ever seen. On the way up Skook I would occasionally glance into the forest and see these pockets where the snow and trees had a wonderful...
