    Moosilauke and Kinsman traverse 11/14/2009

I paced myself to be just far enough behind to be out of earshot. Also saving energy for the dance  I have a new favorite trail. It's called Swimmin' Jimmy.

    Stormtrooper seen on Mt Adams!

I heard rumors of a mild mannered comic book character who went to the mountains seeking a wilderness experience to ease his troubled soul. Nearly had the life scared out of him. To this day he is scrounging nickels for desperately needed psychiatric care

Do helicopters ever find lost hikers in NH?

I saw a presentation by a helicopter pilot on Night Vision Goggles. He claimed that with the goggles one can see a cigarette being lit nearly a mile away. Fire=good

*Help!* - where to hike this weekend without traction?!

Try the Great Gulf or some of the lower RMC trails from Appalachia.

Interesting Situation at Baxter: Car Boot

It would be irresponsible to run out of beer in Baxter. Some might consider it reckless. You can be fined for that in NH. Met one of the bear cubs last week before their capture. Close enough to shake its hand

    FOT48 Adams

While an army of ten was launching a bold assault on nearby Madison the mission on Adams would require a different strategy. The Adams team had been ravaged by injuries and other unforseen circumstances. I put out a call for help to a few fellow members of the PVSART team. Several members of the...

Full Moon Finish for A 'summer' 48

But you only hiked for a couple of hours  Nice job. Everyone still looked strong at Madison Hut. Sunset/moonrise was amazing  Got to sleep in and start late. Had a leisurely trip up Howker Ridge. Hoping to inspire a community effort to "kegline" the whites.

    Packin' Baxter, 9/04 - 9/07 (part 1)

Nice trip but you hogged all the good weather. If it's rain and crap when I get there you both get red squares. And what's up with worrying that poor Ranger?

    Flags on the 48 - 2009 - 09/12/2009

Honda will pick up the tab for a coach ride if your Honda doesn't have low gear. Last year there was an antique car show on Flags day. They wouldn't let anyone up the road until the show was done. May be worth a call to the office.

    Pemi Loop 8.22.09

Nice job with the hike and all. But what happened to your stamina? You guys used to be able to party. Giggy, stop giving NH weather a bad name.

    NH 48 Direttissima North to South 8/13 - 8/23

I overlooked Owls Head. We were in the right place at the wrong time. That miscalculation almost got us arrested  I propose a renegade VFTT hike to Owls Head with picks and shovels. Nobody leaves until the highest point is around 3980. We can save you guys a day on your next attempt ;)...

    Baldfaces/Carters/Meader Loop, 8/15 - 08/16

Good plan for that weather. You bagged more swimming holes than peaks. Jason; weird avatar but we like you anyway.

$25,000 fine assessed for teen hiker

SAR activities are volunteer. Bringing in a copter is the big expense.
