    Pineland Farm 50k Trail Run

Sure thing Buckyball, thanks for reading. I've no secrets, I am a total greenhorn. I regularly finish way at the back of the pack in all sorts of stuff, but it's still made me a much stronger, healthier hiker, and that's really the point of all this. I am without a doubt about the least...

    Pineland Farm 50k Trail Run

Dangit Wu!! I wish I'd known you'd be there. We probably sweated within mere inches of each other but I was so busy being a self-absorbed ultradork with my buddy that I probably missed hellos with a bunch of people. Major congrats on the 50 miler. Did you do a report or anything? Would...
  5. The Unstrung Harp

    Pineland Farm 50k Trail Run

Surely we were going to start feeling tired, and that our conversation would dwindle soon. I'd done up to 20 miles but not for months, and she'd done up to 13-15ish. There were a few quiet spells but none were too long. The speaking kept up much more than I'd have guessed. It did however...

    Pineland Farm 50k Trail Run

I did my first 50k a few weeks ago. Didn't really plan on doing one until fall but it ended up being pretty cool. Here is an abbreviated version of a race report. Full version is here. ....And so it came to be that, at 7:57pm on the last night of online registration, whose name should end...

Anyone been up Grand Teton in mid June?

Halfmoon, your photos are breathtaking. I am getting goosebumps looking at them. Can't believe I am going to be in a place like this...!

Anyone been up Grand Teton in mid June?

This advice is all very helpful. Thanks to each of you. We'll have three days of prereq climbing school and snow/ice school before we start the actual climb. I am nervous about the altitude. Hopefully some others in the group will also be lowlanders. I have trained like crazy but who knows...

May 26-27 on Mts. Galehead, The Twins, Guyot, The Bonds, Zealand, and Hale

Awesome!! Love the sunrise pic. What a wonderful solo time that must have been. That said, if anyone ever wants a sunrise hike buddy, I will totally leap out of a warm sleeping bag at pretty much any ungodly hour, if it means there will be sunrise viewage. ;)

Anyone been up Grand Teton in mid June?

I am heading out next week on a guided trip up Grand Teton. I am stoked. I've read and read and read but never actually had a chance before to do anything like this. Just wondering is anyone else has been out there at this time of year, and if anyone has any advice on the weather/conditions...

Better Late Than Never: Goose Eye, Mahoosuc Notch, Old Spec 5-27

Wow, that's a serious hike/mileage to do with a heavy pack. Must have been absolutely gorgeous at first and then absolutely frustrating to deal with with rain/dark. Hope your haunches heal soon! Great pics too. Man, I love this area so much... I must. get back. to Goose Eye. Soon.

Taking a Break on the Moats

Holy smokes! That is like a millimeter away from a nightmare. You are really lucky you were able to walk out of there! I am so sorry you were injured. I felt like this hike was a classic "never underestimate the Whites" hike. So what if it's under 4k, it's still a very rugged hike with...

    I got the dehydration blues....

I definitely second the NUUN if you are sweating a lot. That stuff is awesome. If you're just hangin', then WATER all the way. Glad you are okay, that is really scary - quite the ordeal!

    Barren (yeah, that Barren)-Baxter, ME

    Photos - things that slither

Wow, beautiful! I saw a juvenile milk snake (lampropeltis triangulum) a few days ago at Bradbury Mountain State Park. I was running and didn't have a cam with me, but I posted a pic on my blog of a similar one. It was very small and had a really beautiful, unique pattern. They are quite...
