2 night backpack in The DAKS, Need suggestions

You can't go wrong with any of the suggestions presented so far. Rhihn's advice about the Lake George area and Pete Hogan's detailed Avalanche Pass itinerary suggestion are worth printing! I just did. :) Despite having been through AP numerous times, this itinerary would be great for a...

Breakneck Ridge - East Hudson Trails (NY)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the helicopters! I'm not sure if they were Army, tho. 2 of them flew over during a section where I really needed to see where I was grabbing onto, one of the very steep scramble sections. I looked up quickly, and saw them, but I have no idea what kind they were. Eric...

Breakneck Ridge - East Hudson Trails (NY)

A couple of weeks ago, a friend suggested hiking Breakneck Ridge when I was able to get out again. I've read many TRs about it, and have been wanting to hike there for quite awhile. Well, I finally had the chance on Sunday, the 26th. Despite the very warm temps, there was a constant cool breeze...

    New Jersey AT hike

I live just 2 miles from the Appalachian Trail and the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center in Blairstown, NJ. If anyone needs a ride or shuttle somewhere, or a place to eat and shower, gimme a holler. Our home is less than 20 minutes from the PA border at the Delaware Water Gap. - - Rob

Of all the things I’ve lost in life, I miss my mind the most!

The long, sinewy, thieving, hands of the balsams in the Sawtooth range stole my 15+ year old Nalgene bottle a few years ago. Yes, it was old, but it had sentimental value. Also lost my lunch once, but you don’t wanna hear about that! :D

Andy beat me to it. I agree 100%. While getting all three in one day may be more efficient, I know several people who did these peaks one at a time, and had a blast. Savoring the peaks, unintentionally or not, is not a bad thing! :p Getting all 3 would be great too, but be sure to get back...

    Climber dies on Mount Hood

Thanks for the info. I had also searched the forum after posting and found dozens of mentions of the Hogsback, most recently in a TR by Timmus, and several other threads by Giggy, Keven, etc. I thought the name sounded familiar, but not having climbed Hood yet, it was not permanently burned in...

    Climber dies on Mount Hood

A woman climbing with her husband died Wednesday on Mount Hood when she was hit by large chunks of falling ice, Clackamas County authorities said. Full story HERE. In the article, the Hog's Back rock formation is mentioned. I seem to recall someone here mentioning this name in an earlier trip...

Yeah, that combo really does look good! Whatever you decide, I'll take 2. :)

VFTT Shirts - which design do you like?

Here is a photo of the original shirt. My wife has the same, but in red. Whichever design is chosen for this batch, it'll be worn with pride. Thanks for doing this Greg. And thanks for donating the excess money to the Brain Tumor Society. Methinks you'll get more than a few checks rounded...

VFTT Shirts - which design do you like?

Not sure why, but I like option #1 the best. That said, whatever the consensus is, I'll take 2! :) (For what it's worth, the VFTT shirt that I have from the last sale is gray with a white logo. The logo is similar to option #2, but without the "www.vftt.org" at the bottom.)

    Catskill Snow Conditions

This bridge? It was there in October 2007. And if I recall correctly, Harry Rampe told us it had been built the year prior. I think the previous bridge had been washed away 3 or 4 times in a span of just a few years. My memory lately has not been too good due to health problems, so please...

Geminid Meteor Shower this Saturday - 12/13

I went outside around 6pm, and finally saw one after 15 or 20 minutes. Our home is situated at the base of a 200 foot hill, so the moon didn't actually "rise" until after 8pm. Therefore, when I went out again around 9pm, I didn't expect to see many. I was pleasantly surprised to see 6 or 7...
