Greetings all and Happy Holidays! I am heading to Maui, HI at the end of February. Looking for any and all suggestions of the best places to hike: peaks, water falls, rain forests, beaches, etc. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Also, any preferable maps or book suggestions are also...

Does anyone know about the condition of the cabin on Alander Mt? Does it still exist? Planning on heading out that way next week and just need to know what to prepare for. Thanks.

The art of the food cache

Thanks Tomcat! We are only planning on going 70-100 miles starting at south terminus. I'm too lazy to carry 7 days worth of food so I'll stash some vittles somewhere about halfway of our vague goal. I have heard about the relative ease of getting to and from towns off of the LT and wish I had...

The art of the food cache

    Biggest Nature Surprise

While living in Colorado in the early 90's, a roommate and I became bored and decided to drive to the Grand Canyon in my beat-up 1980 V-Dub Rabbit in the dead of winter. Upon arriving at the gate of the South Rim on a snowy and overcast day, the ranger informed us that the park may close due to...

    Wachusett 4/22

Trails are drying up nicely. A few wet areas to navigate on Jack Frost, Old Indian, Semuhenna and Bicentennial Trails. Snowbaording and ski trails still have cruddy snow and crossing these trails is a bit mucky. No special equipment needed except Nice views of Wapack Range, Monadnock, Okemo...

is it too early to start a "snow-free trails" thread?

There is always Wachusett that is free and clear of snow and ice as well as the Crow Hills in Leominster State Forest.

Agreed...as wet and muddy as everything has been in central Mass, Raptors perform nicely under those conditions
