    Hiking conditions near Boston?

I will probably be hiking in the Boston area this weekend, Blue Hills or Middlesex Fells. Any need to bring my snowshoes with me? Thanks!

White Mountain National Forest Quarter in 10 days

From the first link in Remix's post: Convenient for me and anyone else living nearby and retired :) I may buy a roll, keep a couple, and use the rest as currency.

Snow Lovers May Be Rejoicing On Friday 2/8

The really good news is that it has been much cooler up north ... in Plymouth the temps were around 20 all day, so we can expect fluffy snow once we have dug out of the heavy stuff down in the Boston area.

Garmin to use my trailhead waypoint file

Kevin, Right-click and "Save link as" should do it (you supply name of file). Alternately, there is nothing that needs stripping in the file (the headers are all GPX headers) so saving from thje browser's File menu should do it.

Garmin to use my trailhead waypoint file

This morning I got an email from Garmin asking permission to use my trailhead data in thier products ... obviously I agreed. These data are already available in the OpenStreetMap (OSM) database, and can be accessed using their routable Free maps for Garmin brand GPS devices.

Winter in the Northern Whites today 11/30

Rather than start a new thread ... Already about an inch of new snow in Thornton (elev. 700 feet) ... the trails need it as they are getting bony lower down.

Italy's Dolomites, Alta Via 2 Route

Beware ... the Europe hut-to-hut trekking bug is incurable :) I have never even considered any help with the logistics, and never had any problems. One suggestion is to buy a minimalist cell phone in Italy. Years ago I bought a cell phone in Switzerland for about $30, with $15 of prepaid...

6 Tufts Students Rescued From Dry River

We met them on Crawford Path going up and again on the summit. I suggested that they might want to try going down via the hut, as they had snowshoes on and the trail was partly broken. It unfortunately never occurred to me to warn them of two trails going down from the hut. I feel slightly...

    Greeley Ponds Trail

I was looking on the WMNF site to see whether the Kancamagus Brook Trail was one way (as I seemed to recall), and discovered that the trail has simply disappeared from their XC Skiing/Snowshoeing page.

Thornton Gore cemetery from Tripoli Road

From the man who finds cascades :) Thanks, will explore further. Photos of cascade and/or mill? It is almost totally unknown ... proof is that even you only heard of it a few months ago. I have friends who told me long ago that they used to ski from the Thornton-Gore Road to Tripoli Road...
