    Missing Hiker in Rhode Island

Wish I could have reported better news... http://wpri.com/2016/12/02/extensive-search-for-missing-woman-continues-in-exeter/

    Hotel on Mt Washington??!!

Presby said the hotel would include about 35 “well-appointed” rooms and a full-service restaurant that would cater to hikers and tourists alike. I've no doubt about the second group but I highly doubt it will cater to the first group. The only places to stay overnight on Mount Washington are...

    Missing Hiker in Rhode Island

We seldom see headlines like this here in RI. Hopefully knowing the area from her past hiking and camping experiences she'll be found and be OK. http://www.providencejournal.com/news/20161201/searchers-remain-hopeful-they-will-find-woman-lost-in-arcadia-woods

Hiker Rescue 9/4 - Heading down Huntington Ravine Trail

Hopefully you would at least have a backpack on so I could ask if you had an extra beer. :)

Hiker Rescue 9/4 - Heading down Huntington Ravine Trail

This past 4th of July I was doing the Tuckerman's Ravine Trail. I had a group of 3 guys (I'd say early 20s) come up to me with a road map and ask where they were on the trail. I pointed to Mt. Washington on the map and told them this is where they were. I then went on to explain to them that...

    Tuckerman Ravine -- going down?

No I always go down it without a problem. I was just curious to see what others thought of some of the alternatives. Thanks for the reply.

    Tuckerman Ravine -- going down?

Greetings - Just looking for some feedback from those of you who like to hike the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Do you normally take the trail on the way down or do you prefer a different trail for descending?

How's this for a White Mountain summer place in Jefferson NH

Probably not much I can add to this except to agree with everything you said. I've been to Jefferson many times, I always stay at Josselyn's, and have driven by that church more times than I can count. It looks like a sweet property and I love the views. I personally like Route 2 in Jefferson...

What Will You Be Doing When You're 82 Years Old?

A very inspirational couple. I hope my wife and I are like them when (and if) we get to that age.

    Should I Hike Solo?

I almost always hike solo, in fact it's one reason why I hike. However, when I go solo on a local trail it is usually one that I am familiar with. When I was single I would often hike solo in the Whites without giving it a second thought. Now with a wife and son I think of them first if I am...

Saw that. Randy is an amazing individual.

Sure to Be Removed - Patriot's Postseason

Good point! I've taken advantage of that a few times. I don't party but having played and coached football I am a football purist. Instead of going to a Super Bowl or playoff party I'll get my hike in (without the crowds) then make it home just in time for the kickoff. GO PATS!

If you could hike with a historical figure who would it be?

Jesus. I could ask him if everything they wrote about him in the bible is true. If he answers yes, then I'm sure he could get us out of any trouble we might encounter.

    Great Breakfast

Water Wheel is too busy, crowded and noisy for my liking. The portions are big but I thought the price was a little high for breakfast. The food is good but not great IMO. I stay in Jefferson fairly often and like to travel over to Grandma's Kitchen in Whitefield for breakfast. The portions...

worth a new "Best restaurant for post-hike dinner in Whites" thread ?

I always shower after hiking and before going out to eat, I find I just enjoy my meal more if I do. Not that it is a "shower and shave before going to" place but I like Scorpio's in Lancaster. Scarecrow Pub in Jackson also gets a vote from me.

Does hiking help your body or break it down?

True. I've (unfortunetly) been a desk jockey since I was in my 20s and still am. However, I've also always spent every spare moment I have working out in the gym with both weights and cardio and also playing/coaching lacrosse. Even though I am a white colloar desk jockey I have also maintained a...

    Opinions on Franconia day hikes

I always liked Welch-Dickey but won't do it any more because it is just way too popular. The last time I was there I literally had to wait in line at a few spots on the trail. I felt more like I was at a shopping mall riding the escalator rather than a hiking trail. It just kind of defeated the...

    Potash Mountain 4/27/2014

Congrats on summiting. Potash has always been one of my favorite hikes in the entire WMNF. It may not be a 4k footer but the views are spectacular. I've always been lucky with the Downes Brook. Usually the water level is not that high. Although I did manage to fall in once. However it was a hot...
